Thank you so much for contributing to our classroom project, "Peacebuilding in Middle School: Race to Understand Race." With your generous donation, we purchased a class set of the highly engaging graphic novel American Born Chinese. We read this novel as part of an anti-bullying unit in which students looked at common causes of bullying such as race, gender, socio-economic status, gender orientation, ability, etc. The students loved it, and the novel contributed greatly to their understanding of tolerance and peacebuilding in middle school!
I am especially grateful for your support of the students during these tough economic times. In California, we are faced with a serious budget crisis, and we teachers have extremely limited resources. Now, more than ever before, I am so thankful for your help in providing middle school students with the engaging materials that offer them the opportunity to think critically about race, tolerance, and peacebuilding. You really have made a difference in our classroom this year.
Thank you for being a strong supporter of middle schoolers and their search to understand themselves each other! ”
With gratitude,
Ms. Lomax
This classroom project was brought to life by KnowHow2GO and 10 other donors.
Upon receiving the news that my project had been funded, I could not believe it! I have had this proposal on DonorsChoose.org for a few months and honestly had given up hope on getting my cameras with this proposal. Especially, given this economy.
Receiving this email completes the greatest 2 days of teaching I have ever had in my 6 years of teaching. Using the LCD projector that I received from my last proposal, I was able to teach my kids about the current Israel/Gaza conflict in an interactive and engaging way. I am not exaggerating when I say that of my 5 periods, 90% of my kids were engaged for the full 100 minutes. Not only that, but they all wrote 2 full, well-written paragraphs on the issues at hand.
Thanks to your donation, now my kids will be able to continue this kind of meaningful and deep learning that all kids deserve.
Thank You”
With gratitude,
Mr. DePaz
This classroom project was brought to life by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and 19 other donors.
This is just a quick note, but it comes from my heart to yours as I heard that my project has been founded thanks to you!
Thank you for contributing to the Japanese American Museum Project, which I received today. Your generosity will make an immediate difference in the lives of students at Sylmar High School. I know that through your contribution students will learn to be culturally diverse.
For one thing, I am going to use these books for years to come. I will make sure that I incorporate the Tao-Te-Ching in my lesson plans so; students will be able to benefit from the proverbs in the book.
Thank you so much for your donation of the American Born Chinese books for my students! I am confident that these books will make my reluctant readers want to read. Even more importantly, the novel will educate them about the hurt that can be caused by stereotypes. I hope that after we read the novel together and discuss it as a class, they will be more sensitive to one another's feelings, and they will stick up for one another when they see prejudice and stereotyping taking place in their school.
Thanks again for your support! I will keep in touch and let you know how the novel unit goes!
Thank you so much for funding my "What in the World Are you Reading? (Asian Literature)" grant. I was ecstatic to see my students and I will receive these books in the fall. In recent years, students have become more interested in Asian literature, and I don't have many copies of these books. I know these books will be a wonderful asset to my classroom library. This year, I had several students who wanted to read these titles, but the local libraries didn't have editions. I am thrilled to know students can read them next year.
I want to extend my deepest gratitude for your willingness to support efforts to educate my students in ways that are meaningful to them. When a teacher has materials that facilitate student discovery and expression, the students benefit from the class lesson...but many times, they benefit from those types of lessons...FOR LIFE. Thank you so much for your kindness. My students and I look forward to providing you with feedback regarding this project. Best regards, Ms. F”
Thank you so much! I greatly appreciate your contribution to the cultural awareness of my students. I hope that my students will not only learn about and appreciate a new culture but will also learn how valuable education is in escaping from difficult situations. No one requires others to lend a hand to those they do not know. It gives me confidence in the world that there are still people willing to help strangers. I thank you, and my students will thank you”
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your generousity. The kindergarteners at the C.E. Lawrence School will enjoy the materials you have purchased for us. Our young students learn about the world through play and the multi-cultural items will help bring the world into our classrooms”
Thank you so much for your generosity! The children will be so excited to be able to meet their penpals and experience Chinese New Year in such an authentic way. Your kindness means so much to them and to us, as teachers. We appreciate your thoughtfulness. Happy New Year!
I am overjoyed (and a bit amazed, to tell you the truth) that you have decided to donate so generously to my classroom. These books are greatly needed and used for my classroom on a daily basis. While I was able to purchase a few for my fall students (it is a semester long class), the counselors have nearly doubled the number of students enrolled in my spring class and I would not have had enough books to cover each student. Nor would I have had enough money to fund them on my own, as I did in the fall. I truly appreciate your kind generosity, as do my students.
Once again, thank you so much. Your donation has been the best news I have received in a while and is a wonderful way to ring in the new year.
Sincerely,
Jamie ”
With gratitude,
Ms. Keith
