  • Art Supplies

    Funded Jul 18, 2011

Thank you so much for the gift you have given us! Only a few teachers have triangles in our school so the students don't really get to learn to use them. The 7th graders just finished a project where they had to draw a scale version of our stage. The rulers and triangles made it so much easier for them to create their drawings.

Later next week, the 8th graders are starting their set designs. During that project, the students create a backdrop that is 6 feet by 8 feet for their 10 minute play. I am looking forward to giving them the large T-squares and yard sticks to use to make their designs come to life.

The materials you have given us will be used over and over for years to come.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Shariffskul

  • Voices of the Harlem Renaissance

    Funded Jul 17, 2011

This is just a small token of my gratitude for your generous donation to my classroom. The books you have donated will help every eighth grader in our school, and for years to come! We will be using them this year in EVERY reading class and I just can't thank you enough.

We started this unit last year and it was one of the most successful units of the year. It's one of the units that many of students really enjoyed. These books will only make the unit better.

I am so very grateful that you chose to donate to my project. Without donors like you, my students wouldn't have these books. Thank you so much. ”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Trekas

  • Budding Pianists Need a Little Quiet Time

    Funded Apr 25, 2011

Thank you all for your generous donations to our project, "Budding Pianists Need a Little Quiet Time." I am overwhelmed and very happy to see how many people out there value music education.

With your help, we will be able to purchase the headphones which will then enable each student to have individual practice time on the piano. Not only do the students love to play, but they learn a great deal in their exploration of the instrument.

Thanks again for making a difference in these students' lives. ”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Tarbox

  • Motivating Positive Behavior

    Funded Mar 12, 2011

We are so excited to be receiving these materials for our middle school "school store."

Thank you so much for giving to such a great program that rewards positive behavior in middle school students. I will now be able to offer the students some tangible rewards for their hard work!

Today, it is very important to maintain a standard of appropriate behavior and sometimes it takes some extra incentives to do just that! These items will be of interest to many different kinds of students; from the more cerebral kids who might find the Guiness World Records book a great catch and then also the more active kids who might find the soccer balls and footballs more enticing.

Again, I am deeply thankful to be able to share these materials with my students!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Crook

  • Let Our True Colors Shine Through - Stage Makeup Part 1

    Funded Mar 9, 2011

Thank you so much for the stage makeup kits! It was so wonderful to see the kids learning theatrical makeup techniques. I loved giving them the opportunity to experiment with various makeup effects and to learn how to age people.

Our spring play, Guys and Dolls Jr. took place in the 1940s. With the makeup you provided us, we were able to get the elegant makeup effect on the girls we needed and the rough, street-wise look to our guys. Before we had this makeup, we simply had to do without. We produced A Midsummer Night's Dream earlier this year, and though the play was beautifully done, it could have dazzled the audience even more with fantasy makeup on the fairies.

I look forward to using the makeup next year with our fall play, Into the Woods. Wolf makeup, here we come!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Shariffskul

  • Let's Bring the World to Our Stage with Scenic Painting

    Funded Dec 4, 2010

Thank you so much for the paint you have sent our children. When we started this program three years ago, I walked into a completely empty classroom - bare walls, no books, no curriculum.

We have a great staff and administration who bend over backwards to help our department. However, there are only so many resources to go around.

These paints make it so much easier for us to create set designs for our plays. It was so easy making the set for our spring play Guys and Dolls. We look forward to using the paint for the rest of our plays.

Your donation helps the students see that their class and our department are special and important. By doing these 8th grade plays, these students don't just learn about the performing arts. They experience first hand how teamwork, motivation, and creativity impact their work and themselves. Thank you again for your donation!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Shariffskul

  • All Day Engagement

    Funded Dec 23, 2010

Thank you so much for your generosity in funding this program. You have no idea the impact something so basic has in a room full of eager learners. At least one of the many new manipulative sets are used every single day. That is immediate impact. In our class we try to have small group learning throughout the day. This increases student involvement therefore increasing learning and retention. The students have created new and interesting ways to use the manipulatives which has given us an even bigger bang for your bucks. Thank you once again for believing in the public education system.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Carrera

  • Family Backpack Night!

    Funded Dec 23, 2010

Thank you for your generous donations to my project. With your help, I am able to bring home and school together by providing opportunities for families to work together. The early experiences that my families are able to have with their children allows for my students to flourish now and in years to come.

Through your donation to my project, I am able to send the Take Home Backpacks with my students to help them explore and work on skills with their families. The backpacks provide experiences with math, reading, science, and social students, which are all key curricular areas for my young learners.

When the students bring these backpacks home, they think that it is so fun! I hope to instill this l love of learning and "homework" in my students each day so that they enjoy it in future years as well.

In today's world where parents do not always have time to make things and get things to work on with their child, it is essential that I provide these opportunities for my families. With your support I am able to give my students and their families this chance. I cannot thank you enough for your contribution to my proposal. You have helped to bring my students and their families together in the most positive way. ”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Optie

  • Learning is Fun in Kindergarten!

    Funded Mar 5, 2011

I just want to thank you again for all the resources you supplied to our classroom! We use the resources every day during group time. The students love using the hands-on materials and are so excited every time I bring them out.

The materials you donated are helping my students with pre-reading skills and math skills. The variety of resources I received really helps because some of my students are still reviewing letters and some are already reading.

My students and I cannot thank you enough! ”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Castorena

  • Time for Reading

    Funded Mar 9, 2011

Thank you does not seem like enough for the joy and excitement your donation has brought to my students! Students have been reading, reading, reading!! Students are able to practice the very important kindergarten sight words in a new and exciting way with the sight word readers. This will further ensure that students know their sight words and are ready for 1st grade. At the same time, students are developing their concepts of print. They are practicing reading directionality, one-to-one matching, and using pictures clues to help them figure out unknown words. These are skills that will help students to become even better readers as they move to more complex texts.

The whisper phones have given students additional motivation to read. Even the most reluctant readers are asking me, "Can I read this with the phone?" daily! Before I would hear groans or students pretended to read independently. Now, students are on task because they love to hear themselves... and read more than ever! It is so important for students to realize that they should listen to themselves read to monitor for meaning. Using the whisper phones encourages this good habit from the start.

I look forward to starting next year with these great books, phones, and timers and seeing students experience both success and the joy of reading.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kruder
