Today, I am thanking you for the important impact your donation to my "Third Graders Learning and Loving the Ocean" project has had on my students' learning. As teachers, while we think we work to change the world, we are often mandated to teach content that will improve our state test scores where we measure learning impact through metrics.
While I expect our scores will reflect great growth, I assure you the impact of your donation on my students' learning far surpasses simple metrics. My children really and truly love the oceans. They have read the books you sent, watched videos about the ocean, and have written government representatives ( including the President of the United States ) to ask for support in our ocean protection cause. Also, these third graders have committed to using less plastic and reducing their "water" footprint. (They watch me every day to be sure I am using my reusable bottle!) How can you measure that interest!
As we continue the work you made possible through your donation, we are planning to record a short video to educate other students in our school about ocean protection and water conservation. While this learning is only a drop in the bucket of ocean knowledge, your donation that began as a trickle of learning and continues to grow. The true impact of your donation is not simply measured by my students' learning, it will be measured as these children grow into adults who care about our oceans and our planet's resources. Your donations really have changed the world.”
Thank you for your generous donation to my class. My students, as well as two other classes, were able to enjoy an experience of a lifetime by going to the aquarium.
Many of my students will live their lives without ever stepping foot in the ocean. On our trip, students were able to have hands-on experiences with this part of our world. We saw sharks, turtles, eels, jelly fish, and so many other types of animals. We even got to touch and feed some sting rays!
You have truly made a difference. Thank you for giving my kids this opportunity. I hope this has inspired them to see the world a little differently.”
This project is awesome. The jellyfish might just be the coolest class pet ever!!!! They are beautiful creatures that most people don't get to witness up close on a day to day basis. My students absolutely love them.
My students have been doing a lot of research on ocean ecosystems. It is a very interesting topic that students are always interested in.
Along with researching ocean ecosystems, we have also been researching pollution, specifically ocean pollution. The ocean trash can kit enabled us to pollute our own makeshift oceans. We learned about the 5 different pollutants that go into the ocean and how they effect the different aspects of an ocean. I think they liked the part where they got to create an oil spill. Don't worry, they did a great job cleaning up the synthetic feathers and fur that were covered in oil. YUCK! This was definitely a wonderful hands-on project that really educated my students about ocean pollution.
Thanks again for your amazing generosity!”

Thank you so much for remembering my students. Your generosity will help them in their science class to explore the ocean and the weather and their impact on our lives. My students are involved with local subsistence activities, like hunting and fishing. Awareness of the weather is very important for these activities.
My students are in an Alternative Program. They had failed and/or dropped out of school. This Alternative Program offers them a second chance to return to high school and complete their degree. Taking this step will offer them many benefits in the job market, and will greatly increase their chances to avoid drug problems, jail, or suicide.”

I am so thrilled that each of you took the time to donate to my classroom project of creative movement using ribbons and Ocean Waves. We received the materials requested in late December and I was able to immediately use the ribbons for creative movement with a listening activity for musical selections from the Nutcracker. It is truly beautiful to watch children interact and feel the music in such a fluid way. They are able to demonstrate the form of the song selections using varying motions and even the most timid students will anxiously involve themselves with a ribbon activity.
I have also been able to incorporate the chime in my classroom to signal transition time or to re-focus the students. The students really enjoy listening intently to just how long the chime will ring and we discuss what it means "dampen" the sound with a hand and incorporate a bit of science and how sound waves work. It's a true blessing to have this become a part of my classroom.
My Orff Ensemble members are excited to use the Ocean drum this spring with song selections that will benefit from the unique sound effect it can provide.
Thank you again for your generous donation to our students and our school. With donors like you I know that many children will continue to benefit now and in the future.”

"My students have learned so much from the donation of the marine echinoderms, fish, and other live aquatic supplies to our classroom. They have taken full responsibility for the care and maintenance of all the marine species int he classroom now. The largest tank (picture included) is downstairs in the lobby is viewed and discussed by over 2,000 kids a day. With the addition of the brittle sea stars, pin cushion urchins, pencil urchins, and sea biscuits the students are constantly viewing and watching them interact. Its so much easier to explain how something survives and lives when they can actually see the animals than to have them read it in a book. Thank you again for increasing the career choices and learning experiences for my students, with donors choose help and a few other donors I am able to completely immerse them in an aquatic world"”
With gratitude,
Mr. Butler
