  • Exploring the Human Body

    Funded Feb 12, 2013

I very much appreciate all your donations towards the Human Body Model! Every year I will be able to display the model for 160 7th grade students for the human body unit.

Students will be able to see the model visually, and observe all the organs of the human body. Students will also be able to touch the model and feel each organ separately. The students are extremely intrigued by the model.

My educational lessons are more interesting students when they are exposed to a display. Students become more involved and active in the classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. S.

  • Rocks, Minerals, and Erosion... Oh My!

    Funded Oct 15, 2012

Wow thanks to all of your support and generous donations this project received full funding. My students were so excited when the materials came! We started off by explore the different types of rocks and mineral samples we received. The kids loved it! I was amazed at how they could tell me the difference between igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary rocks just by looking at the samples.

Then we moved into more group activities using the stream tables, which are amazing! I have never had such an engaged class during a science lesson. My students had a blast creating land forms and then watching them change as the water ran down the table. They came up with many different theories and experimented with different land forms, amounts of water, and water pressure.

This has truly made a difference in the science lessons and has created memorable activities for my students.

Thank you so much for your generosity.”

  • Conservation of Mass

    Funded Oct 17, 2012

Thank you so much for your generous donation. Thanks to you my students had the wonderful opportunity to engage in a hands-on experiment that reinforced the concept of conservation of mass.

During the lab the students were beyond excited to wear their brand new goggles that made them feel like real scientists! Students were really happy to do science and learned while having fun. We received plenty of materials which will keep on supporting many more 8th grade students in the years to come.

Once again, I'd like to emphasize how important your donation was to me and to my students. Your donation allowed for resources that otherwise would not be available. This encouraged many bright, motivated, underserved students to participate in science, investigate, analyze, and apply their knowledge, all of which are 21st century skills that they will need later on in life. Thanks again.”

  • Exploring Math in Kindergarten

    Funded Oct 16, 2012

"Look I sorted the animals by type." "Let's sort them by color next." "Look, look we matched all the numbers!" These are some of the things you can hear during centers when the children use the new math tools. What you can also hear are the sounds of a small group working with me on a skill that they are struggling with . The gift of that time is so precious.

When students work together with the games and center tools they are experiencing all that is good about kindergarten: sharing, group problem solving, working at their own pace, free exploration. When they have time to work alone with me they are practicing foundation-building skills.

Thank you for your kind gift; you have truly made our class a more fun, more challenging, more independent place!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Eichel

  • Urban Environment Research

    Funded Nov 4, 2012

Thank you for your kindness and generosity. Your gift will go a long way in improving the educational opportunities for my students. With the advent of hurricane Sandy, they had the opportunity to see how important their projects are in the community they live. Our rain garden and our trees helped to reduce flooding for the school and now the tools that you have given them will help them develop technological skill that I could not have given them with the resources I have. Further more, your generosity has helped them understand the importance of building communities and investing in that future. Thank you and may your kindness be returned to you many times over.”

  • Science Needs

    Funded Nov 7, 2012

On behalf of my students, I want to thank all of you for providing us with the calculators we so desperately needed. In the short time we have had them, we have been able to complete 3 lab activities (one of which is pictured here) with all students being able to contribute to the work, not just have one calculator per group.

This has also contributed to a greater understanding of the concepts being taught. The success rate on the exam associated with this unit (astronomy) was higher than in the past, when students not only didn't have their own calculator to learn with, but did not have one to take the exam with.

Your contribution not only impacts my classroom on an almost daily basis, but is invaluable in reinforcing some of the basic math skills they need for math. I have heard great things from their math teachers as well.

Again, thank you so very much! I look forward to thinking of all of you every time I pull them out for my students for a very long time.”

  • Please Help Fund our Field Trip to the Monterey Bay Aquarium

    Funded Oct 15, 2012

Thank you so much for your generous donation. You made it possible for two classes to attend the Monterey Bay Aquarium. The kids enjoyed the bus ride to the field trip. They couldn't stop talking about all the ocean animals that they want to see at the aquarium!

When we arrived to the aquarium, we were able to attend an educational workshop to learn about the ocean animals' life cycle. The students kept a journal and recorded information on the top 5 animals that they wanted to focus on. We went to the Open Sea where they saw animals lurking in the water. The Kelp Forrest had a diver who gave us useful information on sea creatures and how important it is to not pollute our environment.

All in all, the field trip was an amazing experience for our 4th graders and kindergartners! They are still talking about the field trip now. I know they will remember this experience for the rest of their lives. Thank you so much again for making this field trip possible. We can't thank you enough!”

  • Graduated Cylinders And Blocks Needed

    Funded Oct 15, 2012

What is an object's density and what does that have to do with buoyancy? To combat this disconnect, my students connected these Physics terms to visual demonstrations which reinforced their understanding.

Your donations made it possible for my students to measure the volume of their model aluminum boats using our newly purchased graduated cylinders. They then calculated the densities of 12 different cubes while being able to compare their answers to the mass they felt while holding the differently massed cubes.

Thanks for allowing my students to have a better understanding of the relationship between mass, volume and density. These concepts will not be forgotten nor will your kindness.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Wirts Pelayo

  • Keep Looking Up!

    Funded Nov 21, 2012

Thank yo so much for funding our Astronomy Project!! We will be using the SkyScout & charts for years to come!! We are so excited and anxious to get started!! Thank you for helping us on our journey to study the stars!

We will be using the materials early in the next semester and now we are planning on a sky & storytelling event to celebrate with our community!!! Your generous donation and support will enable us to look to the skies for a lifetime and to get our community excited about astronomy and science. Thanks again!!”
