  • FAME - Videos Help Us Teach About History

    Funded Jan 13, 2011

Thank you so much for making life easier in my classroom! Having a large Television makes it much easier for me to present materials to the students by creating a much more organized environment. In fact, it has not just been useful to myself, but many other teachers in my department have been using it because this TV is the first real step towards updating our classrooms with 21st Century technology. This is one of the first real steps we have made towards creating a more technology friendly environment.

I have used the TV to show powerpoint presentations done by my students and to expose them to a broad array of film clips and videos that will expand their knowledge of history. Our students appreciate the steps you took to make it a reality. As you can see from the photos, the TV helps to enable my students and I to present various materials to each other. It allows me to bring in more materials to the room that enhance the learning experience and allowing me to engage students while circulating around the room more freely and making sure they are on task.

Thank you, once again, for your generous donations. ”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Falkove

  • Fourth Graders FLIP For Video Technology!

    Funded Dec 26, 2010

Thank you so much for your generous donation to our classroom. The Flip Camera you provided has quickly become an invaluable and engaging tool.

Having a Flip Camera in the classroom has greatly expanded the work my students can do. Now, when my students consider what they want to do as a culminating project for a unit, many choose to film a short informational video about a topic they studied or produce a short script and film that captures what they learned.

It has also enabled us to more easily share with parents the work we do in the classroom. Now, when students practice a self-choreographed dance in dance class, I can immediately videotape it and share it with parents via our class blog. This way, families feel like they are a more active part of our classroom learning.

I look forward to using these resource with classes for years to come! Thank you for enabling us to capture our learning and create new resources!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Clements

  • Math Public Service Announcements

    Funded Nov 10, 2010

Thank you for your generous donation of two Flip Cameras for my Math Classes! Our class completed our Math Public Service Announcement projects, where students created videos teaching their peers about different mathematical concepts. Not only did your donation help our students complete their projects, your donation will serve millions of students worldwide.

How, you may ask? My students are posting these videos on the Internet for any student with Internet access to see.

In essence, you are part of the butterfly effect of making every adolescent a stronger mathematician.

Thank you again for your donation. Every time a student's video is viewed online, we will think of you.”

  • Projected Learning

    Funded Nov 25, 2010

Thank you so much for your contribution to our classroom. The projector is a wonderful tool to incorporate interactive activities for my special needs students. We will use it for a variety of science, math and reading lessons where it will add a new dimension to the students' learning.

I know that using a projector in class will help the different subject come alive in a new way. With the projector, slide presentations, movie clips about science and math puzzles are at my students fingertips. Computer technology is an important part of my students' lives and they need to understand that they are tools for learning as well.

A heartfelt thank you for taking an interest in my students and their futures. Donors like you make my job easier and my students' experiences more well-rounded.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Liebman

  • Dynamic Writing

    Funded Dec 31, 2010

The students have been both delighted and busy since the paper products for our literacy projects were funded through your generous donations to my proposal Dynamic Writing. Right now they are busily producing pop-up books in both fiction and non-fiction genres and can't believe the the numerous paper options now available to them as they work. In addition they've been working on science posters about protecting their hearing as part of our science curriculum and the paper has been a valuable resource in this project. The students were also delighted when they opened the "magic box" as we call it (it is really a remnant paper box) and found watercolor templates. They are tremendously enjoying painting these pictures as part of our art period each week. Your generosity has tremendously improved their engagement in literacy, art, and science. Thank you for choosing this proposal and helping my students in such a wonderful way!”

  • iPad's Are Revolutionary for Students with Special Needs

    Funded Nov 10, 2010

I don't know how to possible thank you enough for funding a grant that paid for 8 ipads for students in my intervention group. I wish you could have seen the video when I first allowed students to see and use the iPads. For students who are pulled out of class and often stigmatized and made to feel they are not good enough or smart enough, it was an amazing experience to realize that they are valued even my complete strangers.

We have been using the iPads in class to record our reading and work on fluency. We have also used various word work applications and games. Students in my math tutoring have been able to use apps to improve their basic math skills. Students working on decoding will use an app called Doodle Buddy to write sounds and words as they hear them when we practice dictation. I know there is still so much more I can be doing with the iPads and I'm so excited to continue to explore ways to use them to improve student achievement. As new apps continue to come out, the possibilities really do feel endless.

I can't thank you enough for your tremendous kindness. You have truly made a difference in the lives of my students with special needs, and you have made a difference in my ability to be as effective as possible as a teacher.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Reeve

  • Laptops for Literacy: Bringing Computers Into The Classroom

    Funded Jan 6, 2011

It has been a pleasure working with the gift you provided my room. My students greatly enjoyed opening the packages and setting up the computer systems. I now struggle with assigning who gets to work with them first - they are in such high demand. Thank you again for your generosity to our school and my classroom. We live in difficult times where educational systems are changing and the future of funding is unclear. It is very rewarding to know we have the support of institutions such as yours.

Rest assured you have done good in the world. Thank you. ”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Lord Johnson

  • Flippin' Out with Flip Video

    Funded Feb 25, 2011

I want to thank each of you personally for your wonderful generosity in helping bring this project to fruition. In our technological world, often times education has been slow to keep up, and this means students are not engaged in their learning. With these cameras we will be able to approach science instruction from a new and different perspective that incorporates my students' great creativity. They will be having fun while they are learning the content, and they will have the opportunity to be exposed to career possibilities such as journalism, that they would otherwise not have in a science class.

These students will use these cameras to explore science content from a new perspective and will have the opportunity to present their finished projects to the whole class. We will be able to use these cameras for many years to come, so many students will benefit from your incredible generosity. Watching them work cooperatively  gives me a great sense of pride as a teacher.  Thank you again from the bottom of my heart. Your generosity truly brings tears of joy to me!"”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Benz

  • Social Learning

    Funded Dec 31, 2010

Thank you very much for your kind and generous donations. We are very excited to have received the I Touch. We have been working on using it as a communication device. For those who don't talk, it has given them another means to communicate with others. My students are very curious about the device and all the different ways and opportunities to use it. We have been working on using it to request different items and as way for them to comment during group lessons as well as when they interact with other adults and peers. We have also set up pages for them to use it to take turns during conversation. They can say hi, ask questions, and answer questions by simply choosing appropriate picture symbols. For the older kids it's a "cool" communication device. It is also an affordable option for parents to purchase or if they already own, they can simply download certain applications. My students and I thank you again.”

  • Technology For Special Needs Kids

    Funded Oct 6, 2010

Thank you so much for your generous donations! From the day we opened the computer box, my students and I have been thrilled with our new classroom laptop. The computer has proved itself as an invaluable resource in every ELA unit and on every project. Especially for students who do not have access to such technology at home, the laptop has inspired them to become Internet researchers and PowerPoint specialists!

Since receiving the computer, my students have worked on numerous technologies based projects. During our non-fiction unit, students created PowerPoint presentations of aspects of Japanese American Internment during WWII. Their ability to design the slideshow, collect their own research, and present a final product was definitely a confidence boost among some of my struggling readers and writers. More recently, students created research reports on members of the Resistance during the Holocaust. The computer allowed students to research and type their reports, resulting in a bulletin board of published pieces!

We are so grateful for your donation to our project. The computer has allowed for a richer classroom experience with access to endless online resources. My students are becoming self-sufficient, computer whiz kids and will be prepared for the demands of high school. Thank you for your gift- it has truly made a difference”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Hurley
