  • Up Close and Personal

    Funded Dec 1, 2009

Thank you for your generous donation of the whiteboard easel. The easel is used on a daily basis in the classroom. Students use the easel to show how they solve math problems, spelling patterns, and various math and language arts activities. Students enjoy using the easel because it is at the right height level for them and it is portable and can be moved around the room. I have also enjoyed the whiteboard easel because I can use it in small group work and I like that it is lower to the ground for whole group lessons. The whiteboard also can be used to hold charts, which comes in handy for the classroom.

The whiteboard easel has been a wonderful resource for the classroom and I am very grateful for the support and donation from wonderful people like you. Thank you again for your thoughtfulness! ”

  • Capturing Our Learning

    Funded Jan 23, 2010

Thank you again for your generous contribution to my classroom. My students were ecstatic the day the new camera arrived and their enthusiasm has not faded. We have been using the camera to take pictures and video of the students while they are reading. The kids are much more motivated to read now that they know that their fluency will be captured on video! As the school year comes to an end, it is nice to know that your contribution will be used for years to come. You will continue to have an impact in my classroom year after year.

It is wonderful to have people who are helping students have access to important resources and positively impact their education. Again, I thank you for your generosity. You are helping to make a huge difference in the lives of the children in our community.

Thank you for investing in my classroom!”

  • Writing Right for Students with Learning Disabilities

    Funded Nov 10, 2009

I would like to extend a huge thank you for your generous donation to my classroom. The digital voice recorders have been a huge hit and we have found lots of ways to use them for other subjects besides writing as well. My struggling writers feel very special when they get to use the recorders on their writing projects. It's almost a fight in my classroom everyday to see who is going to get to use them. I have noticed a huge difference in their writing when they get to use the voice recorders. Also, my students have started using them to memorize their math facts and to listen to their fluency in reading. I never imagined there would be so many uses. I am very grateful for your donation, it is making and will continue to make a significant difference in the education of my students with learning disabilities. ”

  • We're Going Green!

    Funded Nov 19, 2009

I can't thank you enough for the green water bottles. After establishing our first ever, Green Team, we rewarded them each with a water bottle. They screamed with excitement. They all carry around the water bottles daily and it is evident that other kids have taken notice. After presenting the students with the green water bottles, we have seen more water bottles being used at our school overall.

I think it is so important for students to believe that they can make a difference and you have helped make that happen. Thank you so much for your generosity and spirit. We will not forget it! ”

  • Recycling: Teaching Sustainability

    Funded Nov 19, 2009

You have helped our school get started on the path to a greener way of thinking! The Recycling Video Kit is a great resource for helping our students understand why it's so important to recycle. The fourteen hands-on activities that were included with the kit range from making new paper from old newspaper to figuring out how much electricity it takes to produce an aluminum can. You can see our students involved in some of the activities in the pictures I've posted.

The video emphasized the tremendous amount of solid waste typical Americans create. It really sunk in with the students and has made them stop and think before throwing things away that could be recycled instead. We are now recycling cans and bottles schoolwide, and I hope to add paper soon. The students are so excited about recycling that they have even asked to bring items from home if their family doesn't participate in any recycling efforts. It is my hope that their enthusiasm will spark a willingness to implement a home recycling program as well.

Without your support, we would not have been able to implement such a successful school recycling program. You have truly made a difference in our students! ”

  • Force and Motion

    Funded Dec 3, 2009

Thank you for all the help you have given me. I especially appreciate your generosity and understanding the importance of education.

The Force and motion set that you donated have helped my students for Physical Science Class. We`ve used them to demonstrate the ability to use scientific processes of generating hypotheses, collecting and interpreting data, and predicting consequences. Students applied scientific and technical knowledge to understand and attack authentic problems for everyday life. Students gathered data in an experiment in order to investigate Newton's Laws of motion, like force= mass x acceleration. Students analyzed motion graphs, used the data to determine acceleration for each trial and draw graphs of the relationships in the investigations. You made it possible for them to understand the concepts of Physics to enhance their learning. Again, thank you so much. I greatly appreciate your generosity”

  • How To Be A Good Sport

    Funded Dec 16, 2009

Our packages arrived a few days ago. We were so excited to open the boxes. The kids clapped as every item came out of the box. I explained that some very kind people knew we needed nice things for our playground and they bought the nice things for us. The children said "ok", "nice", "I like that", "I like them", "yippy" and "good job". Their comments sort of sum it up!

Thank you so much for giving to our school. We work so hard every day to make progress towards our goals. Adding these items to our playground has made such a difference! Our students are playing games together and are learning to be good sports.”

  • Motion Picture

    Funded Nov 19, 2009

I cannot begin to tell you the impact that your gift made to enhance the learning of my students. I thank you for your generosity and your support for education.

Sixteen of my students used the two flip video cameras you helped fund to work on a project which was part of their semester final. Furthermore, the cameras were also used to video tape and advertise a silent auction we hosted at our school to fund a summer trip to Europe for seven of my students. Finally, in February of this year, I will be piloting an elementary school program to introduce 2nd and 3rd graders to both French and German; the cameras will be used to document the progress of the program.

Your gift has made a direct impact and will continue to enable students to use technology in the classroom. Once again, thank you for helping my students.”

  • To See, Or Not To See!!!

    Funded Nov 18, 2009

My students were so thrilled to see the document camera when it arrived! I had to wait to use it, though because we share just two projectors in our K-5 school. I guess I didn't realize we needed one, that speaks of our lack of knowledge in technology. Once we began to use it, though, they were so amazed at the "magic" of this instrument! I cannot thank you enough! I have used it not only for math, but also for writing, test taking skills, interventions, reading and social studies. This week we are learning about Martin Luther King, Jr. and we are using it again for some of the books I have checked out. Their engagement is amazing! I cannot thank you enough! Blessings and wishes for a fabulous new year to you all!”

  • Math Facts For All

    Funded Nov 11, 2009

I am so thankful to have a class set of addition and subtraction cards. I see tremendous progress with my students' ability to recall their facts. Before receiving the cards, I would say a problem out loud and get few correct responses. Now, when I say a fact I receive more enthusiastic feedback, and my students are becoming more accurate with their weekly timed math tests.

I believe that independent practice is important. The children are so proud to have their own set of flashcards. They sit inside hula hoops to practice their facts. The learning that occurs in this focused space is a favorite daily activity. Students enjoy the routine! They point to the numbers and say the answer to the equation. I remember seeing the smile of one little girl when she said, "Ms. D, I knew the answers to the facts without looking! Math is so fun!"

Sometimes, the students work in pairs to practice their facts. They enjoy saying the facts together, and this bonding experience has made my classroom a more cohesive learning community. Individual students lead the class in choral responses to the answers of the math facts. The cards have truly given the children valuable opportunities to develop responsibilities that will influence their future success. Thank you so much for your generosity. I wish you the best during 2010. My class is very fortunate to benefit from your kindness.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Doerr
