  • The Electrifying College Physics Experience

    Funded Dec 24, 2008

First let me say how inspirational it has been to watch this proposal over the past few months. When I came up with this proposal it was mostly a dream – a dream of having the equipment to give my students a college-prep physics course. Starting with nothing at the beginning of the year, the prospect of conducting such labs in my classroom seemed slim. Writing this letter now, I can barely control my enthusiasm. Working in urban schools, funding is nearly nonexistence. I thought it would take at least ten years to even have half the materials this proposal will provide. The great lessons and the massive amount of learning these lab materials will provide the students is overwhelming! These materials alone will provide labs for nearly the whole second half of the school year.

Because of your donation, I am confident that my students will walk into a college introductory physics lab and know their way around. Encouraging a love of science in urban students is so vital, and you have provided me with the wonderful vehicle for hands-on learning. I promise that these materials will be used to their fullest potential and that I will work hard to design curriculum that will utilize every instance of learning that the supplies can induce. My students invest in their education with time and hard work, and I assure you they will be exceedingly happy to hear the news of this proposal’s funding when we return from winter break. Thank you. You’ve made my path of educating brighter and you’ve opened doors for my students!

    Sincerely,

    Sara”

  • Let Us See Too!

    Funded Jan 14, 2009

Thank you very much for your very generous donation! This document camera will give my students a whole new way to learn about US History. My students are usually much more interested in learning from each other than from the textbook. While professionally made maps and diagrams are great, students often fail to connect with them. Having students create maps and diagrams is a great way to keep interest levels high, but sharing their work is difficult. It is very hard to read a diagram on a piece of paper from twenty feet away. Now with the document camera, students will be able to go up and have their work projected in front of the whole class. I predict that this will greatly encourage students to try harder and learn more. Once again, thank you very much for your very generous donation”

  • A Living Scrapbook of My Education

    Funded Feb 2, 2009

I just wanted to write you a note to tell you what a difference your donation to our "Living Scrapbook of My Education" Donor's Choose Project has made in our students' project presentations.  Your donation of a DVD duplicator, along with the DVDs, labels, and cases makes it even more special for our students to receive their own DVD copy of their theme-based project video portfolios.  These cumulative portfolios are priceless to each of the families as well as in our own staff research practices.

Our 5th grade students will receive their portfolios at the end of this (and future) school year(s) and be recognized for their accomplishments.  This DVD will help the students and parents reflect back on the child's accomplishments and help them to identify their individual strength areas based on Howard Gardner's theory of the 8 multiple intelligences which is at the core of our school philosophy.

I hope you enjoy seeing the pictures of our students following their theme-based project presentations.  You can see how proud they are of their accomplishments.  Your donation has made a huge difference to the children and their families, not to mention the improved efficiency of my own job in providing them with these DVD portfolios.  Thank you once again on behalf of all our students and staff.  Without people like you, it would never be possible.    ”

  • Web 2.0 Meets Urban Education

    Funded Oct 15, 2008

Thank you so much for your generous contribution. I am ecstatic about bringing these resources into my classroom. My instruction has been stifled by a lack of internet access for my students. Many have no way to use computers unless they are provided by the school. But with your help my students will finally have this barrier removed. Urban students are at a serious disadvantage without these resources. I know with this generous gift, my students will now be more engaged and will begin to get the education they deserve.

I am excited to begin using these resources. Thank you again for your support. I can finally bring my students into the 21st century”

  • Digital Video- The New Age!

    Funded Nov 9, 2008

Thank you for your generous donation! I am extremely honored that you saw fit to contribute to the great things that are going on at Mastery Charter Shoemaker Campus.

Your gift of this laptop enables many things in my classroom. First, it gives students the opportunity to work with new technology that most of them have never had the chance to touch previously. Second, it enables them to learn the art of digital video creation and editing- a skill that they may use in future college and professional lives. Finally, it enables students to take a hand in documenting and preserving the history of the school. Their work will serve as the memories of their formative high school years, as well as memories for the rest of the building!

Our building continues to grow, and our continued success is only possible thanks to tremendously generous donors like you! Thank you again!

    Sincerely,

    Daniel ”

  • High Needs School Needs A Computer

    Funded Oct 28, 2008

Thank you so much for your generosity! We are so appreciative of the amazing opportunities that will be available to us with the addition of another computer to our classroom.

At present, we are trying to educate 31 students with only 1 computer. This will make such a huge difference in the lives of our students, many of whom do not have computers of their own.

    Thank you so much!

    Sincerely,

    Davi”

  • Pictures To Inspire, Part II

    Funded Nov 17, 2008

First of all, thank you for making our proposal a reality. The photo printer will be of great use in our classroom. My students will soon be able to print pictures and use them as motivation for their writing. I'm positive that the beauty in their language will be discovered through their interpretation of their pictures. Thanks a million”

  • Music Soothes the Soul

    Funded Nov 24, 2008

YYIIIPPPEEE!!! That is what will be heard in the classroom when these CD's arrive at my school. The children and I are excited to receive these CD's that you so graciously provided for our classroom. The impact of these CD's is sure to be immeasurable. I know that they will affect the children in a positive way. The children will be able to move, chant, sing, and rhyme to the music. In addition, they will experience music that is not what they typically would listen to. They will experience different rhythms, cultures, ans styles thanks to you and your generous, giving spirit. Thank you again from the bottom of my heart. The children all say thank you, too”

  • TIGER - When Learning is Fun, Learning Happens

    Funded Dec 16, 2008

Thank you so much for our early Christmas present! We are so excited about having our project funded. We can begin making our games once we return from the holidays. That will be a great way to review what we have learned so far this year. It will also be a great way to help students prepare for the end of the year testing. Reviewing can and should be fun. Students need to love learning and thanks to you they will love reviewing! It is also important for them to learn to help their community and we can do that by sharing the games we make. Have a very Merry Christmas and thank you for funding "TIGER- When Learning is Fun, Learning Happens!"”

    With gratitude,

  • The Ears Have It!

    Funded Dec 9, 2008

Thank you for your donation! Because of your generosity, my class can improve their technology skills and knowledge in every content area. We'll start the first big project right after the winter break; the students will be practicing their typing, word processing, and movie-making skills as they put together presentations for Science class. Of course, they will continue with a wide variety of projects throughout the rest of the year.

In this time of financial difficulty, education budget cuts, and increasing frustration, our school community truly appreciates your donation”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Westman
