  • What Do You Do When the Lights Go Out?

    Funded Feb 7, 2008

This news makes me so happy!!!! I want to thank you very, very much. I use my overhead projector for every single class, and it never fails that the bulb goes dead right as I turn it on before a class with no time to spare. A new overhead to replace my antiquated one will have a post for a backup bulb that will swing into place when a bulb goes out. The usable projection space is greater on the new model as well. I can't tell you how much this will get used and be appreciated.

Some day I hope we are higher tech and that I won't depend entirely on an overhead. But frankly, overheads are so easy and have so many applications that I don't think they will be obsolete for a while.

Oh, and the new one will be so much less hot. It is a bear to stand next to this one for a long time, even in the cold months!

    Thanks again!

  • Science Writers' Metamorphosis

    Funded Jan 15, 2008

Thank you so much for your generous donation to our classroom. The students have been working very hard this year on incorporating writing and literacy in to their science class. Your generation has helped the students see the fruits of their labor much sooner than would be possible without this equipment. They are also very grateful that people outside of our high school are thinking of them and valuing their education. Students will be able to see the work of their peers (without disclosure of name; the students have the option of sharing if it is their work) and this will increase their confidence in proofreading and ultimately in their fluency in their second language (English). On behalf of the science writers at our school, I would like to thank you for your thoughtfulness”

    With gratitude,

  • Podcasting Across the Curriculum

    Funded Jan 11, 2008

Thank you for funding this project. Technology is often pretty far down on the priority list for schools so teachers have to find creative ways to incorporate up to date technology in the classroom. Having these iPods will help us to continue our technology integration efforts despite the fact that we will not have a computer lab next year”

  • Classroom Set of Graphing Calculators

    Funded Dec 31, 2007

I want to thank you for your generous contribution of graphing calculators for my math classroom. My kids will use them every day, and the calculators will greatly contribute to their understanding of advanced math concepts. This is a great gift and will definitely give them a leg up towards college math and a very bright future.

  • You Can't Hang a Computer On the Fridge

    Funded Dec 21, 2007

Thank you so much for choosing to support our classroom! We are all extremely excited to finally be able to start creating hard copies of the work we produce on our computers. We've also been working on creating a school newsletter, and now we'll be able to print it easily right from our classroom!

Thank you again, and we can't wait to be able to send pictures of us working!

    Sincerely,

Mr. S and his 8th Grade Student”

  • Altering Perspectives: A New Lens in the Classroom

    Funded Dec 14, 2007

The news that you have chosen to fund this proposal send a joyful shriek to my house-mates!

In our classroom, we have been studying the geography of Washington DC, and in the last couple weeks, have made two trips to the National Mall to work with Park Rangers and visit the Lincoln, FDR, and Jefferson Memorials. Students, like sponges, soaked up the sights and sounds and smells of the city. Now, with a digital camera, I can expose the students to even more places in the city, through photography.

In addition, we will document our future trips with the camera, and print out photos right in the classroom, for students to make collages and class murals of their work and experiences together. This camera and printer will be put to very, very good use.

Thank you so much for your generosity.

    Very Best,

    Judy ”

  • Slide into the 21st Century

    Funded Oct 26, 2007

On behalf of my students and the Social Studies Department at Thurgood Marshall Academic High School, we THANK YOU for your generous donation. We will be able to use the extensive slide collection once again. Often times a picture is worth a thousand words to help students understand a concept or to literally see the past. The slide scanner will help us utilize our slide collection in an updated medium.

    In deep appreciation,

    Marie ”

  • Visual Stimulation: My Students Love Our Classroom

    Funded Oct 23, 2007

There is a huge thanks that needs to be granted to the donor of all these great prints. My classroom serves as the artistic outlet for pre-k though eight grade at our school and it has become very difficult to find appropriate and affordable prints for the student to better understand the arts. Thank you so very much for your very, very generous donations. They will be a great help in my classroom.

    Thank you again,

  • Mission to Mars!

    Funded Oct 23, 2007

Hello! Thank you so much for your generous donation! I am so excited to be able to tell my students in class tomorrow that we are going to do one of the Challenger missions at Chabot Space and Science Center. They have heard from my students last year that the trip is amazing and have been hoping to be able to go themselves. It is an amazing museum to take students, and I promise that they will learn so much and have an amazing time while learning. Thanks again”

    Funded Oct 23, 2007

Thank you so much for donating your hard earned dollars to help my students! When I announced that we had been funded the students all jumped up, applauded and had smiles on their faces. It makes them feel very important to know that somebody out there cares about them and their education. Words cannot express the gratitude that my students and I feel for your help. Their educational experience will be much better because of you! Thank you”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Cervantes
