It is with mixed emotions that I am participating in Mustaches for Kids. That's right, for the next four weeks, I will be subjecting myself to public humiliation and private doubt by growing what will no-doubt be a ridiculous looking Mustache. In order to justify this endeavor I need your support. Please sponsor my Mustache by picking a classroom project from the list below to support. And wish me and my Mustache luck. • Architectural Model Building

    Funded Nov 19, 2010

I would like to take a moment to thank the donor's for this project. The materials that were purchased by you made this project possible. This project has turned out to be one of the most rewarding activities that we have done this year. When I first started planning this project I thought it would be a project where the students would design and build a scaled of a home for a client, but it ended up being a much larger and more rewarding project.

When I announced the project I started by saying that they would have to interview a client to design a home for. Most of the students were interested in the project but not all. I followed that statement by saying that we not only were going to design the homes but we were also going to construct a small scaled model of the house. That was the hook. I showed them a few examples of what the model will look like. A few of the students stated "We'll never be able to do that.....". Well a month later they were building their own models. As students completed their homes we were able to do sunlight studies and a many or add-on lessons to the project.

This project made me realize once again why project based learning projects are such a strong tool to use in the classroom. As far as this project goes, it would not have been possible without all of the generous donors here at donorschoose.com. Thank you so much for your support. Wish I could have captured the sprit in the room as they were building their projects.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Walker

  • Project 180 (Journaling Through Pictures)

    Funded Nov 25, 2010

Thank you so much for your generous contribution which allowed our class to purchase the cameras, printers, and ink. These supplies allow the students to write with pictures. They are now walking through the halls with cameras in hand. They return to the classroom where they can print out the pictures and this gives a purpose for their writing.

The cameras and printers will also make it easier for this group of fifth graders to create a yearbook representing their last year of elementary school. We have created a yearbook committee of 5th grade students who are in charge of putting the photos together to establish the yearbook. It is our hope to continue the yearbook with each coming year.

The project was only possible with your supportive help. It always amazes me of the support of the community and beyond. My students and I are extremely grateful for the generous gift each of you have given to this worthwhile cause. I hope you will continue to support us in any way you can. Thanks again!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Rineholt

  • Learning for Life

    Funded Nov 10, 2010

The happiness and gratitude of my students cannot be fathomed.  They enjoyed looking at the videos you donated.  The picture books of community resources as well as the living-on-your own activity books has been their everyday guide as they learn practical things they can use in the future and even at the moment.  We have used these books everyday as they are helpful in creating lessons since we do not have Life Skills curriculum. The cooking booklets serve as their guide in learning new and easy recipes. Those assembly and sorting materials are very helpful across subject areas.

You just don't know how your donations have filled in the materials the school was never able to provide due to budget constraints.  With the variety of materials you gave, it is no doubt that my students will be able to use them in their everyday lives.  At the moment you made the donations  and onward, you have made a difference in these students' lives which they will forever be thankful.

Life is indeed full of hope when there are people like you.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Dutosme

  • Reading to Rise above Inner City Blues to Joy in Heart & Job

    Funded Dec 1, 2010

Thank you so much for your contributions which are providing stimulating reading for my high school music classroom. The books that are now a part of my classroom library would not be there without your generosity. The majority of book titles relate to performers the students have studied in the classroom or that they've listened to on their own.

Almost all of my students have listened to music of Kanye West, but the book, Raising Kanye, which presents views and experiences of his mother in raising her son, gives readers a rare glimpse at what is behind Kanye West and his music.

When students are finished early with an assignment in my classroom, they have the option to earn extra points by reading a book from the classroom library. The books you have recently furnished are among those first chosen.

Thank you for encouraging my students to read. ”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Yoder

  • Manipulatives Make Problem Solving Real

    Funded Nov 29, 2010

My students have received the materials and have found a new joy in their learning experience. The students are so excited to have center time and have enjoyed learning math with their new manipulative's. Their math scores have even increased with the use of the hands on materials.

There are many times throughout the school day, when a student finished his/her work early, during resource time, or lunch when the students are asking if they can get out one of the math centers to use. They are learning essential math skills through the use of the games.

On behalf of myself and my students, we thank you for your donations to our project. Thank you so much.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Allison
