  • Bringing the World to the Classroom

    Funded Apr 16, 2007

I cannot express, merely in words, my gratitude. While my students and I have experienced art together this year, the laptop will greatly enhance their experiences. As I mentioned in the proposal, we will now be able to virtually visit all of the cultures and view the many arts we have discussed in class. Your donation will offer them opportunities not otherwise available to them. You will be able to see the miracle and excitement of discovery on their faces, as I have seen. Nothing can equal the rewarding and enlightened expressions on the students' faces when they see something for the first time. I sincerely and humbly thank you.

    Gratefully Yours,

    Anisha M

  • Becoming Junior International Broadcast Journalists!

    Funded Dec 19, 2006

We are elated!! Your fabulous gift of this Apple laptop for our Junior Broadcast Journalism project with our partners in England will truly build a bridge of friendship with our UK friends. We were so excited that we even called them in Anchorsholme, UK. You have changed the landscape of learning in our classroom and the children are the beneficiaries. We acknowledge your generosity but appreciate your vision for a forward thinking educational environment. Thank you so much for supporting this and for being instrumental in what I hope will be continued inroads towards educational excellence. Thank you, thank you, thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Alperstein

  • Laptop Needed In Technologically Challenged School!

    Funded Dec 18, 2006

Thank you so much for funding the laptop computer and carrying case for my class. I am so thrilled that my class will finally be able to enjoy some advanced technology together. Lately we have been working on some projects, and it's been really difficult because my students don't have enough working computers to keep everyone busy. Having this laptop at our disposal will be so amazing for my students. It will also be a huge part of our "Self-Portraits with Frida Kahlo" project. I'm going to use the built-in camera to take pictures of my students' self-portraits, and then use the laptop to create a class website of an "internet mini-museum" showcasing their portraits. Again, thank you from the bottom of my heart for this generous contribution to my students. Thank you”

  • Enhancing Fluency Through Technology (Part I)

    Funded Nov 13, 2006

I am extremely appreciative and excited about receiving your generous donation for my classroom. I cannot wait to use the equipment that will help develop fluency among the ESL students that I teach. I am also very thankful that I will have the opportunity to instruct my students with this state of the art Apple computer, which will allow me to teach my students to hear and understand the words they speak. Since fluency is the key component of proficient reading, providing this equipment will help my students bring fluent reading alive through video, sounds, and pictures and I am grateful. Through your generous support, my students will have the opportunity to hear their own words and allow them to more quickly grasp comprehension in the English language. I truly believe that with your kind donation and the efforts of our students we can enable fluency success and make a difference in their academic achievements”

    With gratitude,

  • Computers For Harlem Students In Special Education

    Funded Oct 23, 2006

Wow! I am so excited to bring current technology to my students. This is such a fantastic donation that you have given us!

Technology is a crucial part of our world today. I work with Special Education students with learning disabilities. Most of them have dyslexia and have trouble especially with English Language Arts.

Recently a student of mine screamed in frustration because he was unable to read his own writing (it was a speech for class President). I had a private conference with the child and explained to him that many people have difficulties spelling and the most important part were his thoughts. I told him that "spell check" is a tool that nearly all adults use when editing their writing. I also told him that we would soon have access to computers where he would be able to check all of his work. He brightened at that thought.

Another student loves to read and can understand complex concepts, yet has difficulty reading written words. Having the ability to download audible books onto an ipod where she can listen to books that are on level with her comprehension, will improve her reading and more importantly keep her involved in reading.

My students are also very visual and often learn best this way. Having access to videos and a computer to view them on will be useful in all subject areas.

Again I thank you for all that you are contributing to our classroom.

    Sincerely,

    Ms. ”

  • iPods To Play Audio Books To Help Struggling Readers - Part 2

    Funded Oct 23, 2006

Thank you for your generous donation of iPods for our classroom. This donation completes a small class set of iPods. Now we can begin a book club program with our struggling readers. These children will not only be able to listen and read along to great literature, but they be able to discuss it in small groups as well”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. R.
