  • Ebola Palooza

    Funded Jan 6, 2009

I cannot express how thankful I am for your generous gift to our science department and our students!! I am thrilled at the idea of having my students research pathogens and become fascinated by them. I really appreciate your generosity, and the kids do, too. I hope that my students will be inspired to look beyond their imaginations from seeing that life exists outside the scope of our eyesight. Thank you very much, and Happy New Year”

    With gratitude,

  • Taking Science Outdoors with Bird Feeders!

    Funded Dec 2, 2008

Thank you for helping to attract birds to our school grounds. With binoculars also funding by generous donors like you my students will be able to observe and learn about the wonderful wildlife that exists right in their own backyard. We also plan to collect data on 16 different species and send the data to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology as part of their citizen science program. Thank you again for helping me to nurture the curiosity and wonder that is in each and every one of my students”

  • Digital Natives Flip For Video!

    Funded Dec 2, 2008

Thank you so much for your generous support of our Flip Video project. The kids are itching to get their hands on these digital cameras so they can begin expressing their creativity via digital images. I have already alerted teachers to the imminent arrival of the cameras so they can begin planning their lessons around this great new technology.

We are not a rich district, so every resource is a treasure to us. Happy Holidays from all the students and staff!

  • English Language Learners Lack Listening Center!

    Funded Dec 3, 2008

Thank you so much for your generous donation! I cannot wait to put this center to use in my classroom. When I told my students about the new materials coming our way, they were beside themselves. Eager to learn, they realize that these materials will help them develop their English skills on a daily basis. I am confidant that this will be an invaluable addition to my classroom. Thank you”

  • Engaging Young Adult Fiction for My Awesome Kids

    Funded Dec 4, 2008

I would like to thank you so much on behalf of my students for your generous donation. I am so excited and eager to share these books with my kids! I cannot tell you how greatly they will appreciate your gift. In a school where 100% of the students qualify for school lunch, and where funding for resources is a major challenge, it is extremely difficult to get our hands on engaging books. My kids often ask me for better books, but there is little I can do without my personal investment or other, outside private donations. With your gift, I will be able to provide my students with books they not only will love but deserve. I cannot thank you enough for your truly inspiring generosity and kindness”

  • Bringing the Brazilian Rainforest to New York

    Funded Nov 28, 2008

This is the time of year to give thanks for all of the good in our lives-our family and friends, our health and good fortune. I was super excited to sit at my computer today, the day after Thanksgiving, and find that my request for a terrarium had been fulfilled. Teaching science sparks interest and holds the attention of students, especially students who may not otherwise excel in reading and writing. The ability to use and closely observe real, living things affords students with experience, which is how learning in science occurs. A teacher drawing, a colored photo and a video can't compare to holding a real plant in your hand. Also, the school is in an urban area, so there are few experiences to be had with nature in this neighborhood.

Many thanks for your support, and I know the students will be able to put the terrarium to good use for many years”

  • CLICK and PRINT for Media Masters

    Funded Dec 14, 2008

I am so thankful for the kindness and support of these amazing donors. The printers we will receive will enable my students to take their hand work to a higher level, creating media projects that are well planned and beautiful. Over 200 students this year will benefit from this generous donation. They have been longing for dependable printers and are excited to hear that color printers are on the way! Already these 6th and 7th graders are planning several fabulous media literacy projects including critical responses to political advertising and social activism. I look forward to seeing their hard work in full color”

  • Make The Little Things Bigger With A Zoom Microscope.

    Funded Nov 25, 2008

I thank you so much for your generosity. You have given hope where there was basically none. My students and I are extremely delighted to engage in a new phase of hands-on inquiry science. This could only be possible because of donors like you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart”

  • Do You Get the Picture? Yes, We See!

    Funded Dec 10, 2008

Thank you very much for helping to fund this resource.

When I received word that my proposal was funded, I shared the information with my classes. They are universally excited about this new equipment which will help us leverage and more effectively use our classroom time.

For example, they are already looking forward to sharing homework solutions via the document camera -- a task which currently takes 10-15 minutes out of instructional time, because it requires the students to go up to the blackboard after class has already started.

I'm really happy and appreciative that you've helped out my classes. Thank you once again”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Stern
