  • Help Me Number the Stars With My Students

    Funded Jan 10, 2009

Thank you so much for this generous donation. I try to expose my students to as many different perspectives as possible. I feel this book will allow them to see life from the point of view of a girl from a time that my students today do not really know about. I'm always appreciative of any help - especially in the economic time we are in now. So, thank you, thank you, thank you for allowing me to help my students”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Taylor

  • Book Club for Girls Needs Your Support

    Funded Dec 22, 2008

Thanks to your generous contribution, the grant request "Book Club for Girls Needs Your Support" has been fully funded. I cannot thank you enough for your support! The success of Book Club for Girls greatly depends upon book set donations, and I am certain the club members will be thrilled when three sets of fabulous books arrive at our classroom door. Through your donation of books, the girls will learn about the Chinese practice of foot binding, examine and question the role "beauty" plays in society, and enter the world of Salamanca, a vivacious 13-year-old who sets off on a cross-country road trip with her loving grandparents. These thought-provoking novels will surely generate intriguing discussions at our weekly meetings.

Thank you so very much for your generosity. I can't wait to get back to school to tell the girls our AWESOME news.

    Warmly,

    Jenn”

  • Teaching Tolerance in a Multicultural Urban Middle School

    Funded Nov 3, 2008

I was so thrilled to receive a call from DonorsChoose.org telling me that my project had been fully funded. I am flattered and delighted that you thought enough of my proposal to fund it. Teaching tolerance is a passion for me. I am challenged to change students' attitudes everyday when I hear them use racial, ethnic, or gender-related slurs. I believe that the book Maus can really reach middle school students in a way that will make them think about injustice. To have a classroom set of Maus books will allow me to have students read together, engage in discussion, and learn from each other. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I believe your donation will truly make a difference in my students' lives, in the climate of my school, and hopefully, in the world”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Firestone
