My students and I are sincerely grateful to you for your generosity in helping to fund our Soil Stories project. State funding for our school has become severely limited, and as a result our district has frozen teacher budgets for classroom materials. Thanks to your generosity my students and I will be able to continue our study of local ecosystems throughout the school year. The equipment will allow us to monitor and collect data for the purpose of successfully maintaining our current school prairie ecosystem, and for locating a suitable future site for a second prairie ecosystem. My students will also be creating classroom gardens for our studies of genetics and classification. This equipment will facilitate the students' ability to create favorable conditions for optimal growth of their plant specimens.
Sincerely,
Ms. ”

On behalf of my colleagues, my students, and myself thank you so much for your generosity. We are indeed a lucky school for several reasons, not the least of which is the belief that people like yourself have in our success. I am still in a state of shock that so many people from so many places came together to make this equipment purchase a reality for our school. Anthony, the other science teacher I work with, and I have put in countless hours and possibly alienated our families a bit over the last three years as we slowly built our genetics program. The donation of this thermal cycler is a milestone that I thought might take many more years to achieve. Describing how I feel that we now have it is beyond my ability to do justice with words.
The thermal cycler will be put to quick use, and I can assure you from past experience, it will be put to very good use with our students. We recently completed our forensics unit where we used similar loaned equipment to extract and amplify genes that could be used to help solve a crime. Students who do not normally speak were engaged in arguments about who could or could not have committed a crime, just by using the evidence they themselves prepared and amplified. Seeing the transformation in these students was a wonderful thing. Many more of these moments will be made possible because of the freedom we will have with your gift.
It is incredible in these difficult times for school budgets that we are fortunate enough to now have these capabilities. Even more incredible are the even greater educational opportunities this will help us bring to what is traditionally a sorely under-served and disregarded population of students. I look forward to sending you updates on our foray into genetics education and our struggle to prove that not only can they learn English, but they can learn and do science, as well. Once we have received and christened the equipment, I look forward to having pictures to share and thank you notes for you from my students. They are a lucky group with a brighter future thanks to you.
Sincerely,
Jordan ”

I am very excited to know that you have funded my DNA extraction project. My kids who are taking life science, physical science, and forensic science in my classroom will be able to experience the joy of seeing DNA. More importantly, we will be using regular kitchen utensils and materials you provided, so that they know that they can even do this experiment in their own kitchen with their parents. It's my hope that such activities will let students know that science can be fun and science is really part of our daily life. Thank you for your support”
Thank you so much! When I received the notification that this project had been funded tears came to my eyes. This project really will empower my students to become more independent and truly learn, understand and maintain skills. As excited as I am about beginning this, I can only imagine my students’ excitement. One of my boys will scream and flap his arms in excitement until he gives me a celebration hug. One of my girls loves watching herself and will be captivated and ask to watch it over and over saying, “I so pretty.” Another boy who is non-verbal will look at me, smile and laugh so loudly everyone in our hallway will come to see the great work that my students do. I cannot begin to express how much your support means to my students and myself. Thank you SO much!
I just opened my email and found an email that said my project had been funded. I almost screamed! I had just recently told my AP Bio students that the district had frozen all our funds and so if my project did not get funded we would not be able to do the labs. As soon as I finish sending you a "THANK YOU!" I am going to get on my AP Bio website and tell them. Truly I am so HAPPY! Thank you again for making this all possible.
Thank you for your assistance to bring the world into my classroom. I am excited to add these non-fiction books to the classroom library as my students are close to through all of the fiction science-related books I have in the classroom. When the students return after their semester break, we will begin reading non-fiction and I look forward to seeing the excitement you have brought these students through your generous donation.
Thank you,
Philip ”

Having access to great technology like this incubator opens many doors for our high school science instruction. While my biology and chemistry students already have a great love for and understanding of science, providing them opportunities to do college-level experiments studying the genetics of bacteria will undoubtedly provide them with greater excitement, understanding, and motivation to study science in college.
Besides watching kids get excited about learning profound science concepts, one of the best parts of teaching is knowing that, to some degree, you are changing the course of students' lives in profound ways. While it will be years before a student returns to tell me they are a doctor or research scientist, I already have many students who have expressed a sincere desire to become scientists and who have the intellect to achieve that goal.
Similarly, by funding this incubator, you will change the way my students view the world and, by encouraging them to study science, you have also altered their place in it.
Again, I wish to express my thanks for your support”
Thank you so much for helping to fund my DNA models! I am so excited to be getting these materials for my students. They are going to be used this year as we study DNA during Spring semester. Not only will my three advanced Biology classes use them, but all of our General Biology classes (there are 6) will use them as well. That means over 300 students will use these models this year alone! We will keep them in our science store room so we can use them in future years.
Thanks again for your support of my Biology students and your commitment to education.
I wanted to express my appreciation for your donation to fund the project, "Beginning Readers Need a Listening Library." My students will be so excited when they hear that the listening library will have new books with recordings on C.D. and cassette! Your donation will benefit my students by fostering listening skills and reading skills. Many of my students are learning English and the listening library will help them to develop vocabulary and sentence structure. The first grade students are learning about print in books and are learning to make a connection with speech and print.
Thank you for your generous donation to foster the love of reading for my first grade students. I greatly appreciate your thoughtfulness in consideration of this project that will benefit students living in poverty”

Thank you for your generosity and kindness. This is my first funded project with DonorsChoose.org, and I cannot thank you enough for helping this literacy project become a reality.
My students will be reading this mystery novel during our genetics unit in February, bringing literacy into our science classroom. As a cross-curricular endeavor with our school'sEenglish department, students will study the novel to help improve reading comprehension, identification of literary elements, and text analysis.
Your funding helps to educate the leaders of tomorrow in both science and english, two extremely important yet weak areas for our students. Again, thank you so much for choosing to help fund this project.
With deep and heartfelt thanks”
