  • Memory For Modeling

    Funded Oct 28, 2008

It is gratifying to hear that my proposal, "Memory for Modeling," has been funded. Computer memory remains a problem in my classroom where the one computer has the hardware to send programs from student calculators to the computer. In the spring semester, I will have a class of approximately 30 seniors who will benefit from the use of the flash drive and the markers. Sometimes, something as simple as the lack of markers can cause a project to be a less than successful learning tool. Now all my students can put their graphing programs on the flash drive to print. They will be able to meet all the requirements of the poster project by creating colorful posters of their graphing "art." I will no longer need to worry about that little yellow or red light flashing in the corner of my computer telling me that the memory is full.

Many other students will also benefit from the ability to have more memory storage. All my supplemental materials, tests, quizzes, student notes, and other resources stored on the computer will not have to be deleted due to lack of memory.

I am grateful for your assistance and support. My students will also be grateful. Even high school students get excited when someone provides resources for them! I look forward to sharing these materials with them and informing them of your wonderful help.

    Sincerely,

    Charlott”

  • Get the Trees to Say "Cheese"!

    Funded Dec 27, 2008

I sincerely appreciate the generous donation you made to my class. I am just thrilled about all the exciting things we will be able to learn about. With spring just around the corner, so many things will be available for us to explore. The projects we can now do will be the experiences that my students will remember in years to come as they continue to pursue their excitement about learning. The generosity of the people who made it possible will always be remembered. Your act of kindness reminds me of The Starfish Story by Loren Eisley:

One day a man was walking along the beach when he noticed a boy picking something up and gently throwing it into the ocean. Approaching the boy, he asked, “What are you doing?”

The youth replied, “Throwing starfish back into the ocean. The surf is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them back, they’ll die.”

“Son,” the man said, “don’t you realize there are miles and miles of beach and hundreds of starfish? You can’t possibly make a difference!”

After listening politely, the boy bent down, picked up another starfish, and threw it back into the surf. Then, smiling at the man, he said… “I made a difference for that one.”

    Thank you from the starfish.

    Sincerely,

    Mrs. ”

  • Geology Rocks: Rock Hound Jewelry

    Funded Oct 19, 2008

We want to thank you for believing in us and our project. This is a fun learning project, and it will also allow us to continue to support ourselves. Our goal is to be self-supporting in our projects. This funding is coming at a great time. Because of your generosity, we will be able to make rock jewelry in time for the holidays. We expect it to be a very busy time for us. We know we will make a difference because you believed in us.

We know the goodness you have shared with us will be passed onto our family, friends, and community. We hope it comes back to you, too.

    Thankfully,

    Daw”

  • Artsy Smartsy

    Funded Nov 1, 2008

I am so excited about this project and am very grateful for your generosity. I really appreciate all that you have done to make learning interactive and a unique experience for my students. The chance to express themselves through art will hopefully open their eyes to new possibilities as well as enable them to begin understanding of others. This chance you have given them is truly priceless. Thank You”

  • Learning About Insects With a Renaissance Artist

    Funded Oct 31, 2008

Thank you so much for funding the Renaissance Print shop project!

This project will be a great way to solidify what the students learn about in science class as well as learn about Albrecht Durer, a key figure in the Northern Renaissance. The students will enjoy making this project. It will give them a hands-on way to learn about art and science as well as seeing the connections between the two subjects”

  • Pictures Of My Science Art

    Funded Oct 6, 2008

Thank YOU very much. I am overly excited for the new camera and supplies. There is a blank board in out classroom just waiting for pictures of students and their work to be put on it!!!

The camera is such an incentive for students to complete great work. They understand that excellent work is what will be displayed in our classroom.

    Thank you!!”

  • Don't Be Square: The Cube Nurtures Spatial Intelligence

    Funded Oct 4, 2008

Thank you so much for funding our project. This material is very popular in our classroom. It really boosts the self-esteem of the boys who may be struggling with reading but tend to do well with this sort of hands-on problem. We combine the 3-D work with 3-D drawing and make a sort of numerical blueprint. This is very advanced work for 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders, the kind of work that requires deeper thinking and greater concentration than the typical lesson at this level. It's amazing to see what they can accomplish when they are motivated. Most of my students' families are too poor to buy these materials for home use but it is just the kind of thing students should be doing at home instead of playing video games. Your generous gift will replace hundreds of hours of TV watching and video game playing with a hands-on activity that will build neural connections and hopefully keep these kids interested in school”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. K.
