  • Your DNA Said What?

    Funded Oct 20, 2008

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I don't know if you can ever know how much you have influenced my students through your generous donation to the science department. On the day they announced the Nobel Prize for chemistry (for GFP usage and enhancement) I told my students about the DNA project they will be undertaking thanks to you...you have never seen such amazement and excitement at their inclusion into the new frontiers of science. Forensic science, genetic markers, and advancements my students have never even dreamed of are going to be familiar concepts, sparking these future scientists into dreaming big. What a wonderful day!”

Thank you very much for all your help and support. Your donation has brought joy not only to my students, but to me as well. We look forward to getting to use these microscopes and being able to experiment with them. Now my students will be able to experience the wonderful world of science and I will be able to teach them about it. You have provided the opportunity for my students to gain new knowledge, and hopefully this will inspire the curiosity of future scientists”

  • It's A Small World After All

    Funded Nov 11, 2008

Thanks so much!! Now my students can actually view the microscopic world! I am jumping up & down with excitement explaining how your generous donation will enrich their learning experience. We have been studying pathogens, protozoa, Euglena, and the AIDS virus. This will help tremendously, especially because I have at least 4-5 students in each class with an interest in the field of medicine. One of my students has expressed an interest in becoming a surgeon. The all about me kit will strengthen his desire to become a serious student & study diligently to obtain a degree in medicine. Once again, thanks from this emotional seventh grade teacher”

  • Stuck Between A Rock And A Hard Place...

    Funded Oct 23, 2008

Wow! I told the students today that we would be receiving an incredible package, filled with hands-on materials to make our learning more exciting. Their eyes sparkled and they excitedly asked when it would arrive. It's encouraging for me to see them get interested and engaged in learning and very rewarding to hear them wonder at the generosity of strangers who would want to help them. They truly are great kids and it's very easy to work with them because they appreciate the efforts of their teachers, parents and community. Thank you so much for meeting our needs and inspiring us to think outside the box.

We're currently in the middle of a phase change/state of matter unit and I'm finding the ambiguity of atoms and molecules a difficult concept to ensure understanding in because these invisible things are hard to grasp. The solar print cards, electricity circuit set and crystal activities are going to turn the tide and help those kids who just don't understand by reading the excerpts from our ancient textbooks or the blurbs on Internet sites.

I have managed to convince a few local rock hounds to help identify and catalog our enormous rock collection and the students helping will be gratified to learn that we have real, "correct" sets coming to help them out. I have a few rock identification guide books, but we need hands-on materials to make pictures less enigmatic and our guesses more concrete.

Please know that your generous support in these tough times is so very much appreciated! Our dollars just don't go as far as they used to and public education is really suffering. You're the guardian angel that I've been hoping could help encourage student creativity, instill a love of learning and promote hands-on, relevant, constructive opportunities for children who really do deserve any and all opportunities the adults in their lives can secure for them. THANK YOU!

    ~ Mrs. ”
