Your proposal has been selected for a funding challenge by GrrlScientist! She is an evolutionary biologist who researches the evolution of parrots (and lives with six parrots in New York City), and she is the author of the popular blog, Living the Scientific Life (Scientist, Interrupted).
Having access to great technology like this incubator opens many doors for our high school science instruction. While my biology and chemistry students already have a great love for and understanding of science, providing them opportunities to do college-level experiments studying the genetics of bacteria will undoubtedly provide them with greater excitement, understanding, and motivation to study science in college.
Besides watching kids get excited about learning profound science concepts, one of the best parts of teaching is knowing that, to some degree, you are changing the course of students' lives in profound ways. While it will be years before a student returns to tell me they are a doctor or research scientist, I already have many students who have expressed a sincere desire to become scientists and who have the intellect to achieve that goal.
Similarly, by funding this incubator, you will change the way my students view the world and, by encouraging them to study science, you have also altered their place in it.
Again, I wish to express my thanks for your support”
Birds are a major topic of study in science for our third graders. The history and demographics for Washingotn, DC is the focus for social studies, so the Birding in DC concept made a perfect fit. Birding in our nation’s capitol is an increasingly popular activity among its citizens and visitors from around the world. With your generous contribution my students will have a head start on this incredible phenomenon while they are still in elementary school. In our studies thus far, we have discovered that there are over 200 different species of birds that are right here in our back yard. The binoculars and the sketch pads along with the help of the birding guide will help us accurately capture the images of the birds and to have a understanding of both their anatomy and the habitat in which they live. We thank you for your generosity support of our educational system”
Hooray! I can’t believe my students will soon have a microscope! We are all so excited and looking forward to seeing our world “close up!” I feel so blessed to know that there are people who really care about my students—and me! It’s so easy to fall into the rut of teaching, but having fabulous resources like a microscope brings learning to life and makes my job so much fun—thank you so much!
DonorsChoose.org has already made a significant difference in my classroom. My first project was funded last year, and one more funded project soon followed. These resources have improved my class in ways that I expected: the students are excited and eager to learn and they are learning more. However, I have noticed another encouraging development: many of my students are displaying more positive behaviors! I guess it makes sense that students who are bored in the classroom often act out, so having more hands-on activities is a great incentive for those particular students. Thanks to all who helped fund this project. My students send their thanks, too. They’re all smiling and knowing that someone cares about them! You’ve made our week!
Wow! It is so inspiring to see that you are interested in ensuring equal education for all students. I was so excited to show my students that "Evolution Right Here in the Classroom" had been funded! Your generosity will guarantee that our reading aloud the book, "The Dawn of Life," will make our exploration of evolution come to life in so many ways through using the various specimens that this proposal provides. My students will also be better prepared for a culminating field trip to see an "Evolving Planet" exhibit. Last but not least, I am pleased to say that you will inspire students for years to come now that these specimens will be a permanent part of our classroom learning environment! Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for your support! I am very happy to know that there are people out there who believe that science is an important subject to learn in school and understand the need for more modern science materials in the classroom. My students and I can't wait to receive the hominid skulls. This will definitely help them begin to understand how we evolved from early man”
Thank you so much for your generous donation to my young scientists. My few well used binoculars are hard to share among groups of young students. I am thrilled to be able to give each young naturalist their own window on the world. We have been hiking in our next door urban park. It is a "Forever Wild" site with the most amazing migrating and local birds. Students are learning to "look up" into the canopy of our stately sweet gums, oaks and maples. We have seen blue jays and even what we think might be a scarlet tanager. Thank you for giving our young ones a tool not just for bringing nature closer but also for helping them focus and zero in on the beauty of their world.
This is the first time I have ever requested anything for my students. I told them what I was doing. I can only imagine their excitement when I tell them the binoculars are on their way!!!!!
Thank you so much for your generosity. You cannot imagine how thrilled the sixth graders will be to get such a wonderful opportunity thanks to your support. This may be a once in a lifetime opportunity for them, thanks to your kindness and giving heart. "Thank you" just isn't enough to express our gratitude !! We are very fortunate for your support”

Thank you so much for funding my request for binoculars. Your gift was especially thoughtful.
Since I first posted my proposal, our after school Explorers Club has grown from 30 to 85 children in grades K-5! Thanks to your generous donation, we now have enough binoculars for each small group of children to have a pair of binoculars to share.
The students are becoming very familiar with the field guides and they get excited when they actually identify a bird with the book.
These binoculars will also be great as the weather turns cold. Bird feeders and bird baths are located near the windows and students can bird watch from inside when the weather is bad.
Our next Explorers Club meeting is Oct.6 and I know the children will be amazed to learn that a generous person provided them with binoculars to use in their outdoor "adventures."
THANKS SOOOOOOOOOO much!!! As soon as I got the e-mail confirming that the project was funded I read it to my students. The students are so excited about seeing all of the micro-organisms/slides you are providing us with. Your willingness to help the students means more than you will ever know! They can't wait to use the materials in class. People like you make learning fun!!!
