Having a potter's wheel in the classroom would open a whole new world of creating with clay in the art classroom. Students would be able to learn and experience this wonderful method of making vessels by experiencing making art using this potter's tool.
My students are incredible talents that are always interested in new methods for making art.
These 7th and 8th grade students get super excited when they are introduced to new materials or methods for creating. I cannot wait to give them another chance to make art using this piece of equipment and learning about the history of ceramics.
My Project
We do not currently have a potter's wheel for the classroom. This piece of equipment will open the doors to making ceramics using a new tool in the art room. I will be able to teach students about wheel throwing vessels and a variety of forms that can be created by working on the wheel. Students will be able to experiment with a new way of making art and learn more about how art is made and how we create art for different purposes.
This would be such a wonderful addition to the classroom!
Our students would be able to use class time to create a variety of forms, including bowls for our annual charity event that benefits our local food bank. Kids love working with clay and they cannot wait to get a piece of equipment like this in our classroom!
