Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Did you ever have a student in your school that smelled so badly that no one wanted to go near them? My school is a uniform school and some of my students cannot afford to wash their uniforms everyday.

Growing up in an impoverished neighborhood is not easy.

My students have grown up in such a place and they have limited funds and can only get what they need. Many of our students only have one uniform shirt. They are embarrassed to come to school some days because they do not want to show up with dirty clothes. We have a "loaner" program for students who have no shirt or pants. Since we do not have a washer/dryer different students end up wearing the same shirt over and over.

My Project

Having access to a washer and dryer will make my students proud to wear their uniforms daily, since they will be clean. My fashion design class will also be able to use the machines to wash the clothes that they create in class. All the students will learn that there are people in school who care about them and their personal hygiene.

Your contributions will make my students be more attentive to their own personal hygiene and will have high self-esteem.

This project will allow them to come to school so that they can get an education as some of them don't show up since they don't have a clean uniform.
