This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
As early as 1938 BF Skinner proposed the concept of positive reinforcement. To this day this theory has been proven true and effective in teaching and learning.
As adults when we accomplish something, or have been successful on a task, we feel the need for commendation and rewards.
Imagine the students who have to balance school, extra curricular activities and even work at times. Their after school ‘hustle’ pays them cash and to them that’s rewarding so they want to keep going and to even work harder. So therefore, I think as a teacher and society we can make it possible to reward students when they do well to give the same or similar feel as a job that pays do.
This also shows them that in life you work hard and life and your hard work will reward you!
So it is my wish to provide my students with tokens (small gift cards, snacks, candies, laminated certificates, a scientist of the quarter badge for them to wear on their shirt with their name) when they have performed well or even overcame a difficult task.
It would also be made known that they were sponsored these tokens from persons out side of the school. This I believe will also let them feel as if someone cares and they matter. Which is all that some of them needs due to their home situations.
More than half of students from low‑income households
