This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
I am very excited to bring Book Tastings to my 2nd graders next year! These new and diverse chapter books are the first start. According to studies, when children have books with characters that look like them, they feel confident and are more likely to read the entire book. These book tastings will truly be an experience.
This high-impact event will engage students in a fun activity while introducing them to a specific genre of books.
Before my café patrons arrive, I will set the stage by transforming the classroom into a café/bakery. When students enter the classroom, they will feel like they’ve been transported to a café in Paris with this beautiful décor. As students become comfortable with our monthly book tasting, they will become the chefs and host a tasting for a select group of 1st graders.
