A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
This is my first time teaching first grade, and our classroom needs more learning opportunities for students both English & Spanish speaking to make our meeting time more welcoming. This carpet is just one piece needed to start making our meeting time more fun!
I have 17 1st grade students from several different backgrounds (English/Spanish speaking) and learning abilities.
Students love meeting each morning but a rug would make us all more comfortable. I am 1 of 5 first grade teachers in a public school which has much diversity.
Students enjoy meeting each morning at circle time to greet, learn and have fun. We review letters, numbers, colors and do calendar activities. Some students enjoy sharing songs in Spanish, especially ELL students so I thought a bilingual carpet would be perfect for all students to learn with.
Students come from all economic levels and have different needs both in and out of school. We are working on becoming a classroom family so that all are comfortable at our circle time, sharing, learning about each other and accepting differences.
My Project
A circle time bilingual rug will help all students of different backgrounds feel welcome! It will make our morning meetings, afternoon lessons more comfortable for students, giving them a welcoming place to sit. Students will be able to use the carpet to read the alphabet, count, locate colors. It will also be used as a place to play games when having indoor recess, sit during a read aloud. This area of the classroom will hold many different lessons throughout the day and make the classroom more first grade oriented. This is my first year in first grade and the classroom needs a little help at becoming more geared to young learners!
The donations will help give my students a place to comfortably learn each day.
Students will enjoy sitting, reading and playing on this bilingual carpet and will help my Spanish learners see some familiarity of their language in the first grade classroom.
