Help our young scientists in Chicago. We are in desperate need of composition notebooks for daily use within our science classroom. Without the use of this highly organized writing tool, our students may be left to fend for themselves.
My students are in the 7th and 8th grade.
They reside in an area with some of the highest rates of poverty, crime, drug use and sales, and incarceration in the state of Illinois. 99 percent of the students that attend my school receive free of reduced lunch. They are committed to their education; coming to school regardless of their at-home circumstances, willing to work with what we have, and show diligence in their preparation for the future.
Having science journals has been proved in many in depths studies, to increase motivation in the learning of sciences, serve as an organizational tool for young science learners, and serve as a primary tool of inquiry investigations amongst middle school science education. Because my students can't afford to buy the necessary school supplies to ensure a productive year, I am forced to purchase supplies out of my own pocket. With the cost of composition books (which will last the entire year without being damaged) being so high I am in need of help offsetting the costs. With the use of composition books, my students will be able to save a year's worth of work and take it with them to the next grade; providing them with quick reference guide, dictionary, and lab reports to help them navigate their next science class.
Composition books provide a great way for students to stay organized during the exploration of the sciences.
Not only will they be organized, but they will have a review guide containing an entire year's worth of curriculum notes to reference in the future. Because my students may not be able to secure these books due to financial constraints, I am asking you to help us achieve success this year; it's important to the well-being of us all.
