Help us learn! As first graders much of our day in the classroom is spent moving around. Our attention spans are very short, so we have to have wiggle time, and changes of scenery often! By having a carpet and easel, we will be able to have our reading lessons on the floor.
We go to school in a high poverty neighborhood.
Our students go without a lot of luxuries in life, and even a lot of daily necessities. Because they have such a hard time with their daily needs, once they are at school we try to have them forget those problems. By creating a safe and comfortable environment for our students we help make their childhood experiences positive.
When you walk into our classroom you will see student's all sitting comfortably on the beautiful carpet paying attention as their teacher teaches reading. Because you have given them the resources they need to learn, they will be able to concentrate. Imagine trying to learn reading while sitting on a cold tile floor! By donating to this project you give students a chance to participate. Without a classroom easel, student's cannot be involved in the lessons. Whereas once they have an easel they are able to come up to the front of the carpet and spell words for their classmates, or answer math problems!
This project is important because these kids deserve it.
That's really what they are, kids. Seven and Eight years old. And yet, they know more about life than a lot of people much older than they are. They deserve a great childhood and a safe and loving environment to be a part of when they are at school.
