This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students need these materials to support and develop their math and architectural skills for their Think Show projects.
My students are inner city students in Tennessee who are socially disadvantaged, on free and reduced lunch, and predominately African-American and Hispanic.
They are are full of energy and wonder about the world around them. Access to these materials will open up vast possibilities for them in education and eventually career choices.
My Project
The "If I had a Hammer..." project is a designed to provide students with the opportunity to architecturally design and develop their dream homes by using scale models, math and drawing skills, creativity, and innovation. The camcorder will be used to shoot video of homes in the community to give the students ideas about their own dream homes. The printer with scanning capabilities, printer cartridges, and copy paper will be used to aid the students in typing written descriptions of their dream homes.
Students will be introduced to many different architectural housing designs, how to use scale models in the design of a house, the many different types of interior and exterior housing designs, how to work in cooperative groups, and the array of possibilities that are open to them and future generations in the world!
