My Students

It's been more than a week since the disaster in Japan shocked the whole world. We cannot just sit and watch the heartbreaking tragedy because we know we can do something in our own little ways. This project is our simple way of showing compassion and admiration to Japanese people.

Every time my students came to class, they keep asking me how can they help the victims of earthquake and tsunami in Japan.

Our school is a Title 1 school and in spite of economic status of our students, their compassion and willingness to help are evident. This is also one way to expose my students to other parts of the world as well as other culture.

My Project

Students will bring change/coins to school to donate to victims of earthquake and tsunami in Japan. In preparation for this project, students will be asked to read articles about Japan. They will be asked to write a letter to Embassy of Japan to indicate their willingness to help. This will be a good example of exchange of culture which can widen my students global awareness as well as becoming globally competitive because they will have something to compare with. I have requested jars that my students can use to collect coins for each class in the entire school. Students from kindergarten to 8th grade will be asked to bring their change/coins to school and put it in the jar that Donors Choose will provide to us. It will be a great help for my volunteer to collect the coins that students will bring to school.

Students who will volunteer to help the preparation of this school wide project will develop interpersonal skill since they will be working together in every steps of this school-wide project.

They will also show dedication since they will be doing a fund raising for other people that is not the same race as they are.
