Help us grow! In our classroom, we have plenty of space on the window ledge, but no plants to put in the sun! Help us learn about plant life cycles by planting our own seeds and nurturing them as they grow.
My third grade Spanish immersion students learn best through hands-on projects.
Since they are learning Spanish at the same time as they are learning science, being able to hold and touch the things they are learning about makes the language and the science make so much more sense than simply looking at pictures in books. In this borderline rural community, students have fewer and fewer opportunities in their homes to learn about plant growth on their own. These curious and easily excited kids would love to have a flower pot and some seeds to raise in the classroom.
My Project
With these resources, my students will be able to get excited about vegetables. When they plant the seeds and see them grow, they will be able to make connections between what is on their plates and the plants that those foods come from. My students will learn about the life cycle of plants and the things that plants need in order to survive. My students will be able to better understand the importance of plants.
Donations to this request will make a difference to my students, who beg to do experiments in the classroom.
With enough pots for each child to plant his or her own, all students can be actively engaged in learning and taking responsibility for their own plants.
