Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"The Road Less Traveled" is our class theme. The majority of my students have immigrated from third world countries to a poverty stricken community. They face difficult challenges ranging from having enough to eat to not having an adult who can help with their math homework.

My students are high-spirited, hard working 8th graders who have IEPs, with disabilities ranging from learning disabilities to intellectual disabilities.

They value the importance of working hard to for their futures, but they need physical aspects within a room that can provide technology and visual aids for them. As students in a low-income community, they face challenges every day. However, they are ready to learn each time they walk through the door of our classroom that used to be the men's restroom. They are eager learners who are committed to their futures. Every time they come to math or writing, they share experiences where they find out they are learning the same thing as other students across the hall. They are out to prove they are just as smart as any other student in the 8th grade. They show me each day how hard and willing they are make more academic gains.

My Project

The general ed teachers in my grade have projectors, ELMO's, and a large flat screen television. In our classroom we have an over head projector. My students' world would change with an LCD projector to learn from and for material to come alive! Technology is crucial to prepare students from all backgrounds to work in and contribute to the real world. Students with special needs have a more difficult time accessing information than their peers. Because of budgeting in our school, general ed teachers receive technology to help their students access content before special needs classrooms. Having a projector will allow my students to see and hear powerful presentations on content. A projector would meet the diverse learning needs of my students by enabling them to hear content, see content, and create projects on content. Students will be able to display their projects with pride as they share their work with each other.

By supporting my students, you're helping them take the academic "Road Less Traveled!" A road not traveled by many, if any, in their families.

You're adding hope to their dream of being equal with general ed students. I know that my students work incredibly hard each day and will continue to step up their effort as they know others believe in them too.
