This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I have a line of students at my door, wanting to be a part of the band program, but cannot afford to rent an instrument. Since we are a brand new music program, we do not have a supply of school instruments, so these eager students are unable to participate in band.
We are a Title 1 charter school serving inner-city kids in Ohio.
Many of our students are coming from schools without music programs, and have always wanted to be in band. We are working to build a quality program, but our numbers are limited by the lack of school instruments in our closet.
My Project
We have a school and administration ready to build a program, and students eager to participate, but lack many of the essential materials needed to form a band program. With your help, we can bring a band program to students eager to participate and express themselves.
A clarinet would give a middle or high school student a chance to be a part of a program that would provide not only music instruction, but teach them skills that will help them build confidence to excel and succeed in their future careers.
The fine arts are often out of reach for inner-city students, and we are one of the few area schools that provides a music program.
We hope to provide as many opportunities as possible to our students. Being in a band inspires the students to excel in their other classes. For many of our students, a music scholarship will help fund the college education they hope to receive.
