This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
Looking for inspiration? These highly at-risk students have huge obstacles, challenges, and responsibilities. Yet they are coming to school every day to earn their high school diploma.
Our school's mission is to provide a second chance for youths to graduate from high school.
Most of our students have dropped out of other traditional or alternative schools at least once. Over half the students have children or are expecting.
It is little surprise our students struggle with math. To make the subject more meaningful, they need experiences that go beyond lecture and worksheets. Giving our students memorable and interesting hands-on experiences results in deeper mathematical understanding, and give them more insight into connections between math and real-life.
My Project
Our students definitely love to play games. So what better way to strengthen their understanding of algebra? It's an important mathematical topic for them to learn, but unfortunately algebra also feels far removed from the real world. Many students consider it boring and even intimidating. With two sets of The Algebra Game, we would have a chance to practice and refine algebra skills in a much friendlier and fun environment. They would focus on solving equations, matching tables of x-y values with given equations, and creating graphs based on limited but sufficient algebraic information.
With your generosity you will give our at-risk students a mathematical experience that they will find interesting and remember for a long time.
This in turn will bring them one step closer to academic success and graduation!
