This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Do you remember going to the nearby pond and catching a frog, or watching baby animals grow up near your house? My students grow up in an urban setting, and don't get this opportunity every day. They need real-world examples to observe, so they can learn about change and growth.
My students are 4 year old children, defined as "at risk" by my state funding.
They live in a large urban city, and go to school in the neighborhood where they live. My classroom is in an elementary school; my room is the first school experience for the children in my class. Many of my students are unused to the discovery process; my classroom gives them the opportunity to learn how to observe and discover.
My Project
I am requesting a 20 gallon aquarium and accessories. These items will hold my classroom frogs, which have just grown from tadpoles. As the frogs grow larger, my current 5 gallon aquarium set-up will rapidly become inadequate; the aquarium I am requesting will greatly enable the discovery process. The aquarium set-up includes an aquarium, filter, hood, heater, and accessories. With this set-up, the children in my class will be able to learn and discover.
Without a new aquarium, I will be unable to keep the frogs for long, and the children will be unable to watch the life process.
With your donation, my children will have more opportunities to watch life science at work. This knowledge will help them as they learn about science and nature throughout their school life.
