Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
Try to imagine a world of wonder, where there is everything to learn at your finger tips, waiting to be discovered. Now imagine that all of this information is only attainable by looking at pictures in books. Help my students learn by doing, not by another person's description.
My students are inner city middle school teens, most of them second language learners coming from impoverished homes.
These students are so naive to the world outside their neighborhood, or ignorant to the notion that there are opportunities at their grasp other then teen pregnancy or gang ties. Coming to our school, they are exposed to many lessons, life skills, positive role models and encouragement that there is a vast existence beyond their "hood". It's unfortunate that our school's budget is sparse and we as teachers have to improvise and make the best of the resources at our disposal to enlighten our students to their future possibilities.
My Project
These students are without MANY of the resources that other middle class students take for granted. The only technology I have in my classroom is an overhead. We are without calculators, computers, overhead projectors, up-to-date DVDs and TVs... It would be an extreme privilege to provide them with these microscopes to allow them to see first-hand the Life Science I teach instead of just reading about cells, animals, plants etc.
This donation will bridge the gap from just reading about obscure concepts from a textbook, to applying hands-on activities for better conceptualization.
These students will soak up these experiences that they would otherwise not be able to be a part of.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
