How many times have you wished you had learned to sew? Let's keep it from becoming a 'lost art'! The right tools make every job easier and they also make learning new skills more fun!
Typically our class is a diverse mix of 14-18 year old females and an occasional male who come from a variety of socioeconomic, racial, cultural and family backgrounds.
Our curriculum is very 'hands on' which requires students to work together and to help each other. At the end of almost every class, students are so proud of their accomplishments.
My Project
Each year the talent of these students totally amazed me. I want to provide them with the tools to be successful. Due to the current high unemployment rates and other economic challenges it may be a financial burden for them to purchase necessary supplies. I am asking for small sewing equipment and other supplies such as fabric, thread, seam rippers, seam gauges and new scissors that the students will use to construct projects. Hopefully this will reduce some of the burden and allow them to concentrate on learning.
Unfortunately we have many people in our society that don't know how to 'do' anything...cook a meal, change a tire, sew on a button.
Sewing is a great life skill. A skill that can not only saves us money, but also fosters confidence and a sense of accomplishment for these developing teens. For some, sewing will become an enjoyable life-long hobby or turn into a satisfying career.
