It's all in the details. But what do you learn when you can't see the details very well? Not much! My students need access to a stereo microscope to better observe and collect data on the world around them. They often have questions about their specimens that our hand lenses don't help them see.
My students are mostly Native American attending a public charter school.
The area around the reservation is low income and provides limited experiences for learning outside of school. Many of the students have poor reading skills and hands on work helps them to grasp the ideas we are trying to learn. However, the students are bright and respond well to opportunities provided for them at school.
My Project
A stereo microscope will help the students visually experience the world in its miniature details. Students will be able to make accurate drawings to enhance their reports. The scope will help students realize the value and use of technology to extend the senses as has happened in science. Students will be able to observe and identify freshwater organisms caught during our water ecosystems research and use that evidence to compare different stream systems in our area.
This project is important to help provide a 21st century educational opportunity to out students.
It will provide them with new skills and a new tool to observe their world with 2 eyes.
