Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
Looking for inspiration? Our highly at-risk students have huge obstacles, challenges, and responsibilities. Yet they are coming to school every day to earn their high school diploma, hoping for a better life.
Our school's mission is to provide a second chance for youth to graduate from high school.
Most of our students have dropped out of other traditional or alternative schools at least once. Over half the students have children or are expecting.
It is little surprise our students struggle with math. To make the subject more meaningful, they need mathematical experiences that go beyond lecture and worksheets. Giving our students memorable and interesting real-world experiences results in deeper mathematical understanding and more insight into connections between math and real-life.
My Project
Our needs through this project are very simple and straightforward. We simply request a reasonable supply of ink for our classroom printer. We use the printer at least weekly, especially the color ink, to print out class sets of interesting graphs for students to analyze, images that show real-world applications of geometry, colorful explanations of algebraic concepts, and even pictures of students engaged in mathematical explorations. Students comment that color printouts engage them much more effectively than the black and white handouts they are so used to. We want to ensure we have enough ink to last us through the next school year.
With your generosity you will give our at-risk students an educational experience that's excellent rather than mediocre.
The color printouts will help keep our students engaged in mathematics and interested in the curriculum. This in turn will bring them one step closer to academic success and graduation!
