I teach a fourth grade class full of energetic students ready to learn, investigate, and explore.
Outdoor education has been cut from our budget this year. This project will provide in- class instruction using these materials as well as an after school program for interested students and families.
This project will help connect the students to their communities and show them areas that they may never have seen before. In class activities using the GPS units will require mapping skills, scientific research, organization of materials, and working as a team to solve a problem. The GPS units can be used in all subject areas and the project ideas are endless. We can utilize the "shuttle" bus that already runs once a month for local field trips, to explore new areas of our valley, and practice our skills in the field.
I would also like to start an after school program for families to encourage family time, healthy activities, and creating bonds. The Geocaching club would go on outings together and parents and children will enjoy their quality time together.
With this donation you will make it possible to bring outdoor education into our school again. The economy has effected everyone and our students are missing out on opportunities. This project not only benefits my students in the classroom, but I can't wait to see how it changes the lives of the families in my community. Geocaching is such a wonderful and healthy activity for families to do together. It's like going on a treasure hunt and who wouldn't find that thrilling? I am so excited to see what happens next.
