It's Landscapes not Landscrapes???
I teach Art to grades K-2. This year our 7 year old school has grown in student numbers. I am very experienced in having my students make art with almost anything...we excel at recycling. However, this year because of our growth, I do not see myself being able to have enough supplies. I always try to do one major "standout" project. Last year our art theme for the year was eARTh it has ART. For this theme the entire school made rain sticks using paper rolls, tissue paper and rice. The height of recycling. Because my students are so young, and because I use recyclables so much they do not really know about real art supplies. Well, other than markers, paint and crayons. My students have never painted on a canvas. I would like for them to have this experience with their first landscape painting. They do not quite get landscapes, thus title at the top...one little boy said landscrapes.
My second grade students are very interested in any style or form of art. They are very eager to do their very best, some come from limited income families and art and music are something they are only exposed to at school. I want them to know the feel of a new canvas and the satisfaction from filling that canvas with paint. Mostly, we paint on paper and while that is sufficient for learning, it just doesn't have the same results as painting on a canvas will.
I would like for my students to have the opportunity to paint their first landscape on an artist canvas. They love art in any form or fashion. I strive to instill in them the joy of art and the richness it can bring for a lifetime. I think painting on their first canvas will bring an excitement for art that my words can't always do.
Your help will plant the seed in some young artist who may one day become well known or will have a richer life because they have a memory of art in second grade when they painted a landscape on a real artist canvas.
