A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
I teach sixth literacy and social studies to 38 wonderful students. Our school is located in an urban area with a high crime rate and very little perks. The children in my class have very little. My school has few resources for the children to use inside and outside of the classroom. My students need materials that will help stimulate their brains and encourage them to do great things in the class.
My class and I will be reading and writing biographies. The students will be asked to read a biography and then write a biography about someone in their family, in the class or on someone famous.
The books I am asking for will be used inside the classroom as well as outside the classroom. I need these materials so my students can have something to see, read and use to help them write their own biographies. I have asked for many different types of professional peoples biographies. The biographies on sports legends such as Lou Gerhig, Shaun White, Freddy Adu and others will be read by my boys who love reading about sports. With this knowledge the students will be able to create their own biography on the person they choose.
I do this activity every year with my class. I don't have enough resources for all of the children to use. I also don't have a wide variety, nor does the schools library, to offer these children a choice on whose biography they can read. I would like these books so I can now make sure that all of my children have an opportunity to take a book home with them or to have one in the class to work with. With these variety of books, I am ensured that every student will find at least one person that they can be excited to learn about. It is my hope that I can continue to encourage them to be as creative as possible. With these books, I know I will be able to get my students excited about their work.
