Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
I teach Science for 62, 6th grade students in a high-need public school in an urban area.
Owl Puke? Fun? Totally!
I look forward to the time of year when we reach the Life Cycle chapter in Science. At first, when we turn to the page in our textbook, the children sing a chorus of "Yuck! Gross! Disgusting!". I laugh, because I had the very same reaction when I was in 6th grade. However, I vividly remember MY sixth grade teacher, who bravely took our class beyond the book and into the stomachs of one predator, the owl. In order to make this learning point stick, owl pellets are necessary. It is a fascinating learning experience!
To make this project a success, we need owl pellets, rubber gloves (latex free of course!) and the colorful, descriptive book, "Owl Puke". The pellets and gloves will only be used once, however the book will remain in the learning kit for future students. This investigation links directly with the Life Cycle chapter in our Science Curriculum. It is also helpful in reinforcing learning during the Habitat section.
Your donation will benefit the learning of over 60 children. This experiment could inspire some children to pursue careers in the medical and scientific fields. It may seem gross to many, but to the students, it is a day not to miss!
