I teach sixth grade in an inner-city Title I school which is trying to recover from five steady years of declining resources and test scores.

I was assigned to sixth grade this year and I need books for youngsters that age for daily independent reading time; many of my students have no books at home.

These engaging, classic, and fun titles will help ensure my students become habitual readers. I need a variety of choices for young boys and girls because I want them to have the freedom to pick and stick with books that interest them. I lend these books out so they can take them home. Every minute they spend reading helps me get them to or beyond their grade appropriate reading level. These books are not for a unit or a project; these books are for self-selected reading time and at-home reading. I encourage the students to stop reading a book they dislike and to choose another. Variety is key. They need engaging and fun books and some classics to choose from.

My 8th graders at this school last year read at a 4th or 5th grade level--your help with this classroom library will help me get these kids to their appropriate reading level and beyond!
