This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
No sharpened pencils? No sharpener? What is a student to do? My students have been in situations when their pencil lead breaks, but the classroom pencil sharpener "eats" pencils. In addition, they must complete projects requiring colored pictures and/or graphs, and often lack quality colored pencils to do the job.
My students have always enjoyed the "grown-up" feel of using mechanical pencils, but were forever clicking to get the lead exposed in order to write. Lead would be broken from over extending and the pencils would need to be refilled. Precious time would be lost.
I have discovered a refillable mechanical pencil that does not require students to click to expose lead. They simply begin writing and the pencil senses when more lead needs to be projected. I will write students names on the pencils for ease of identification. The colored pencils would be a community supply, thus names would not need to be written on them.
If you can help me with this purchase, my students will be able to remain on task, using their time to write across all subject areas. They would also be able to complete projects using colors to help highlight information and add interest to their work.
