A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I teach struggling second graders in an urban, high-needs community school that has very few current books and very limited resources.
Students in my school have very few experiences outside of what they see in their immediate neighborhood. I facilitated a culture club after school where students could read, watch videos, question guest speakers and experience different cultures from Asian to European. They loved learning about different languages and other people.
A listening center with multicultural books on CD could help readers listen to stories about other cultures and broaden their world perspective. It can also help struggling readers improve their vocabulary development and reading comprehension. Ultimately, it will improve their overall academic achievement.
Your help will make it possible for students with limited resources to dream of greater possibilities and to believe that there is a larger world beyond their city block.
