Students should be given every opportunity to learn.
I teach Arts and Humanities to 2-8th grade in a very high needs area. My students are all eager to learn, but lack of resources has often been an obstacle the school cannot overcome.
I am literally starting from scratch, as my school has not had an art program in years. Because it has not been a part of their lives, it is very hard to get my students interested in art. It is virtually impossible to get them interested with the current lack of resources. I want to establish a pool of resources here so that Art and Humanities becomes a part of their daily routine.
My students need a series of videos detailing the lives and works of several famous artists. I had the opportunity to borrow one of the videos in this series from a teacher in a neighboring county. All the kids absolutely loved it, and asked to see more. Finally, something they are interested in!! In a community with high poverty and little parent involvement, this is no small feat! The videos are not only fun and engaging, but incredibly effective in addressing our state's required content. This series would be a great tool in helping the students master certain artistic theories and concepts.
Your generous donation will make it possible for my students to be given an opportunity to learn they normally would not have had. It would be allowing them to master content, thereby building self-esteem and an excitement about learning. It would also give them a fun activity to look forward to. Help my kids get excited about Art and Humanities!
