This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Do you remember going to your general music classes when you were younger and experiencing different hand-held percussion? Do you remember playing together and everyone having an instrument? My students won't have these memories without your help!
My students live in a low socioeconomic area in upstate New York.
My students are the sweetest, kindest kids you will ever meet. They have an extended school day and school year, and the opportunity to make music makes their day better! More instruments will only make our music classes more fun and engaging! Every student should have an instrument in their hands.
With the drums and cabasas my students will receive with this donation, not only will it help give every student an instrument in their hands, since we don't have enough right now, it will help my students learn how to play together in an ensemble. Handheld percussion teaches students about timbre, cooperation, and rhythm. All students will use these instruments to learn how to read rhythm notation.
By giving my students an opportunity to play a unique instruments like the sea drum and the cabasas, they will gain confidence in playing other instruments since they will see that the skills they have already mastered are applicable to these instruments as well.
Please help my students become more well-rounded musicians!
