How can we learn to play our instruments with out music?
My students attend a public k-5 elementary school on the New Jersey Shore.
We are located in a high needs area of our town. Almost 75 percent of the students receive free or reduced lunch. The students in my school are amazing. Many of the students in the 3rd-5th grade would like to participate in our band program. However, many of them can not due their parents not being able to afford the price of renting or buying an instrument. We have been lucky enough to receive donations before from Donors Choose and our community to obtain instruments for the students to use. Now we need music for them to use.
My Project
My students need 10 trumpet books, 10 clarinet books, five trombone books, five flute books, five alto saxophone books, and three baritone bass clef books. The Essential Elements 2000 band book series will help students learn everything they will need to know about their chosen instrument. The students will learn instrument care, music history, music theory, and how to play their instrument. After starting out this book the students will move from the basic to more advanced music. This will then allow these students using the school instruments to be able to participate in all the activities that band does including: concerts, small group shows, and trips.
Music is a life long journey.
The 3rd-5th grade students can start this journey in my class room. With your help these students one day could playing in state bands, playing for college scholarships, or even performing for you in a jazz club. Thank you for taking the time to help my students.
