This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Students in my class are constantly building sets for shows. We are currently in need of an upgrade to our old chop saw.
My students create sets for plays and musicals on weekends.
Every Saturday you can find us on stage or in our scene shop building sets for our shows. We have built some pretty amazing sets over the years.
Last year's set was 18' tall and 40' wide. It also rotated 360 degrees. With funding the way it is these days, we have been using an old chop saw that just isn't cutting it (pun intended). We need an upgrade!
My Project
My students become skilled carpenters! We use all types of tools in our shop, but none more than our chop saw. It is getting old, though. The current saw we have sticks and the guard doesn't quite work properly.
We will use this new saw to build even better sets than before. Frankly, my students have become better than the basic tools we have now. Their skills have outgrown the simple tools we have. To further their talents, we need better tools.
There is no tool we use more than our chop saw. Help us retire the one we have (that doesn't work properly) with a new one my students can really appreciate.
The skills my students learn by working on sets will help them later in life.
Just this last weekend we set up a new pneumatic system. I used this as an opportunity to teach my students about plumber's tape and proper connections between metal fittings. We learn about painting techniques, rough construction, moldings, and much, much more! The proper tools make all the difference!
