Ready, set, READ! In my classroom I have the start to a great library but it is missing books to really GRAB the attention of my students, particularly the boys! I need more books, book bins and ink to organize the library so it accessible to students!
My students are amazing individuals that I have the pleasure of spending the day with learning about themselves and their cultures.
Moreover, within the walls of my classroom each year I have at least 10 different languages represented and numerous different cultures. It is an amazing environment to teach about differences because it is so evident. I truly am indebted to my students for all they teach me about life and their cultures.
My Project
In my classroom we use Teacher's College Reading Workshop curriculum. For 60 minutes of our day, my students are reading books at their developmental level. In this proposal, I am asking for a set of Mo Willems books, Pete the Cat books as well as other classroom favorite texts. These books are great texts for beginning readers because of their vivid pictures, interesting characters and developmental reading level. With these books I can use the sets to pull small groups to target and differentiate students' reading needs. With such a wide range of readers in my classroom I need books to captivate readers at any level not just the students reading the higher levels. I've also asked for a more books bins to organize the library as well as ink to use to label the label so it is accessible to students. Therefore, when students have access to the books they can be in charge of their own learning and reading.
As a reading teacher, I look for any characters or text sets that will pull in my students and kick start their reading career.
Each week my students book shop for 10 books that they are interested in, and my library needs the addition of the books requested in this project to attract my readers, especially my boys.
