Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
We have three piano classes at our new high school. There are over one hundred combined students learning and practicing everyday. The advanced students would like to participate in Marching Band, but we need the proper instruments to make this happen.
We have a very diverse population that gets along very well.
They realize that everyone is really the same deep down inside. They are focusing on technology, writing skills, math and the arts.
We are a turn around-school, in our last year of a Sig Grant. Our enrollment went from seven hundred students a few years ago, to over thirteen hundred student this year with a waiting list to get in. We have become the "Model" high school of our district and the hard work has paid off! Our students realize the importance of education and continuing on to college. It is a great place to be, whether you are a teacher or a student.
My Project
We recruit second-year advanced piano students into our Symphonic Band percussion section. They have learned to read treble clef, which enables them to play any of the various mallet instruments in the music. These same students can also read bass clef and play the timpani drums. They enjoy changing instruments for each of the musical selections we perform, ensuring a balanced percussion education. These talented students can only play snare drums, bass drums or cymbals in the marching band as our mallet instruments are not built to carry. They want to incorporate their wonderful mallet skills into the marching band.
Marching band builds character and creativity in students.
It requires commitment, collaboration and team work. These are skills that each student takes with them into the working careers that await them. A set of marching bells will allow more students to be a part of this wonderful organization!
