My students need the funding to go on a field trip to release the 50-75 fry (baby trout we have raised for 6 weeks) into their natural habitat in Lone Pine, CA.

"Develop a passion for learning. If you do, you will never cease to grow." - Anthony J. D'Angelo
My biggest triumph will be instilling a passion for learning in my students. I hope I can give my students educational experiences they will look back on and remember forever.
I have a combination of high achieving and Gifted and Talented (GATE) 4th and 5th graders.
They are hilarious, well-rounded students who love to learn. Whether they are coming up with ways to improve my current teaching practices or staging interventions with school bullies, my students are leaders in their school. They pride themselves on their strong work ethic and intense focus, but love to dance and quote movies. Not a Wednesday goes by without us all referring to the "Hump Day" commercial!
My school is one of the top performing schools in all of Kern County based on last year's CST results. We work very hard to give every student the education they need and deserve.
Our school strongly believes in and utilizes the PLC (Professional Learning Community) model. We collaborate weekly based on student data and needs. We are a close-knit, cooperative school that has a lot of support from the district and community.
My Project
Each student will put on rain boots, wade into the river, and release between 5 and 10 trout. After the release, we will go to a hatchery to learn more about the process in which California preserves the natural ecosystems.
The hatchery is located on an alluvial fan out of the Sierra Nevada Mountains and is committed to restoring a severe loss in the rainbow trout species. Students will participate in activities that explain how stocking the local rivers with rainbow trout help preserve the species and the many organisms that depend on its survival.
Through both a classroom and field experience of hatching trout eggs and releasing them into the wild, students experience first-hand the value of aquatic environments, the balance that must be met to maintain and preserve California's fisheries and aquatic habitats, and how their personal actions affect these valuable resources.
My students will be able to participate in a trip that will instill a sense of awareness and personal responsibility for aquatic organisms and the state's ecosystems.
