Windows Movie Maker Doesn't Cut it for Budding Filmmakers!

I need digital video equipment including digital cameras, SD memory cards, and video editing software.

I am an enthusiastic and technologically adept English teacher. I teach a junior/senior literature and creative arts elective, and one of our main areas of focus is filmmaking. My high school's elective offerings are limited, and our fine arts classes have historically been limited to drawing and the performing arts, so when I was offered the opportunity last year to begin a literature and creative arts class, I jumped at the chance. While literature and discussion are an integral part of our class, we also spend a good portion of the year watching and discussing films, as well as making our own films for class projects. While last year's class turned out some fantastic efforts with our limited resources (a digital still camera that also does video and Windows Movie Maker for editing,) I would really like to have more cameras available to lend students, as well as video-editing software for students to use on school computers. I have already purchased one copy of Pinnacle Studio 11 Ultimate with my own money, and I'm looking to purchase three more so that more groups can work on their projects simultaneously (rather than me having to stay until after dark every night so that groups can rotate through the one computer with the editing software currently on it.) In addition to the software, I'd like to get a couple of digital video cameras. I chose a Canon DV camera because it has a slot for SD memory, making the camera a bit more versatile than if it just had the DV tape. I have a number of students this year who took the class last year--they enjoyed it so much that they came back for a second year. Additionally, because of his experiences watching, screenwriting, directing, and producing as a part of my class, one student has decided to study film in college, and hopes this year to create more films to be part of a portfolio he submits when he applies to colleges. With better equipment and editing software, I plan to get more students interested in both the technical and artistic aspects of filmmaking, and even if they don't go on to major in film studies in college, I hope that they have a greater appreciation of the world of film.
