This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I am a fifth grade teacher of an inner city school. I currently teach math and science to 50 fifth graders. I have found that the students I teach want to learn, but often struggle to achieve success. This is evident in their lack of knowledge in basic math facts. Unlike many students, the students I teach don't get the practice they need from home due to various reasons.
This is why I am proposing a student project this year that will advance the students I teach in the area of mathematics. The students will be engaged in hands on learning using math wrap-ups and music to learn all their facts.
In order for me to achieve this goal I will need a classroom set of math wrap-ups.
In order for the students I teach to be successful now and in the future they need to know their math facts. With your help we will be able to make a difference in the lives of my students this year and years to come.
